having a reaction to tape

It seems that I am having a reaction to tape. Everytime I use it my access and around my access breaks out in hyves, even when I have blood drawls now on my other arm or ivs I break out in hyves where the tape was. We've even tried some other types of tape and the same thing is happening. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there something they can use for my needles instead of tape? or am I just gonna have to deal with the hyves. I have no idea why this just started happening either but it's been going on for a few weeks now.

I don't have a reaction to the tape but the paper tape they use sticks to me like super glue. They have to yank hard to get it off.

Try putting 2x2 gauze under the tape.   Hubby has to do this with the arterial needle .  Just fold the tape on that it looks like a rectangle and put it on top of the needle after you put it in.  At least the tape only sticks to a little bit of skin then.  Hubby can only use paper tape.

My spouses skin breaks down from the silk and plastic tapes.  He can only use paper tape.  There are no hives involved with him but a lady at his clinic had them from tape.  They gave her benadryl for it.

When Mum was on Haemo, most of the tapes caused her similar problems... The only one that didn't seem to bother her was Hypafix... Still uses it to hold dressings over her TenchKoff...

Hope they can sort out this problem... CKD's hard enough to live with without the tape bugging you...

I have a reaction to the paper tape.  They use a woven cloth tape: 3M Medipore.

i don't have any reaction to any tape (my hospital has 3 choices, a cloth/silk one, paper, and plastic - 3m transpore), oh and steri strips to keep the tubing in place.

i don't like any as it really sticks to the skin, i pulled off a chunk of my skin when i pulled off the cloth/silk tape on time.

however, the hospital does make available an Elastic Net - Tubular Retainer Net.   It is almost like a meshy sock that you can fit over your arm.  I have a small netting for the central line.  but i know i can order the bigger one for the arm.  On the box, it states "designed to secure other dressings in place without using adhesive".  This product is made by Medline.

I forced the tape issue at my center and made them get me sensitive skin tape. So far, so good.

I have the same reactions to all tape.  I get sores, hives, and constant itching at my site.  I use the 2x2 gauze around the site so that the tape sticks to my skin as little as possible.  I use Benadryl when it gets really bad and it helps, you can use hydrocortizone cream (just make sure you don't get it on your site, or on your tubing as it will eat at it or cause a possible infection).  Also, use the 4x4 alcohol pads to get any excess tape glue off your skin.  Hope this helps?

I got a reaction to the antiseptic wipe they use before cannulation. Brought me out in hives. I think the chlorhexidine gluconate was the source of the problem. At first I thought I had a reaction to the tape.

Are you sure it's not the wipe rather than the tape that's causing the problem?

I think it's the tape, the longer the tape is on the bigger the hyves, and when it is removed the hyves start going down.
