Headaches and sickness

Hi I am suffering on Haemo dialysis each time now due to headaches and sickness.
The headache starts about an hour after starting and is one of the worse pains I have ever known, later on I begin to feel sick and am !
Is anyone else suffering like this as no-one in my unit seems to be.
I feel that it is because fluid is being taken off, though am not at what they feel is my dry weight.
I have high blood pressure but do not have headaches unless on dialysis ?

Hi Elly. I know this may sound picky, but would you mind popping over to the "Introduce Yourself" forum and writing a bit more about yourself? That way, more people will find you! This particular section isn't read all that often.
As for your question, I've seen it raised by other IHD members, so I am sure someone can share their own experiences with you. It doesn't seem to be an uncommon problems.
I'm so glad you've joined us. I think we can help you.

E let me give you some suggestions dear friend...I too suffered with terrible migraines near the end of my treatment, especially on Mondays going two days without D and mextra fluid on me...
1 like woodsman said be vilgilant with your diet and fluids the less the better!
2 the last 30mins of my treatment I would shut off the UF this means my blood was still getting cleaned but they were not pulling fluid any longer. This gave my body time to readjust.
3 next ask your D tech to try different profiles on you. Like the machine will pull off fluid for a bit but then stop for 10 mins to give u bit of a break, then start pulling agaib...just keeps repeating the pattern. Maybe a different profile would help
4 can u do home or in center nocternal dialysis? Especially nocternal they run the machine slower so it helps with the headaches
Ps-ask your doc for some pain pills or imitrex to help with the headaches. Extreme brain pain after D is not something to ignore...
Hope that helps! Good Luck!

HI,
I know this is going to sound weird, but I was getting VERY bad headaches when I first started D about a year ago. They figured out that they had to run saline through my whole machine for a bit before I came in to sort of clean the filter. The fibers in the filter seemed to make me sick and have a horrific headache. I know, weird huh?
