knerve was hit with needle

The other day while the nurse was starting my IV for my sadation before my fistulagram, she was trying to do atempt one when she started the needle I felt this shock from my arm to my hand, ouch! she hit a knerve with the needle. Now if I touch that spot or move my hand a certain way it tingles which I'm guessing is from where she hit the knerve. My question is, how long does it take for the knerve to heal from this? or if it doesn't go away what should I do if anything?

this happens to me occationally, at dialysis, and it sucks!
Id say... maybe a week? give it time to heal, sometimes i get a sharp pain out of nowhere, i think maybe its from being stabbed so much
at one point my dr "offered" to cut all nerve to that arm, since for about a month straight seemed that darn nerve was being hit, gotta love that drs choice of "helping" lol
Hope it gets better soon!

I had horrible problems with a nerve that ran parallel to the vein and if the needle was not stuck at a specific angle there was hell to pay. It would tingle and burn the entire three hours I did dialysis and it got to a point where the techs were afraid to stick me. It was just something I had to live with until I found the right tech who stuck me correctly.

The good news is that the sensitivity that you are experiencing will most probably subside.
The kicker is that it is hard to tell how long it will take as that is different from person to person.

I have one that is near the centre of the area where they needle me. It seems to me that they hit it when they go too shallow looking for the vein. It burns like you would not believe, and I tend to yell at them to take the damn thing out. My nurses are good. For some, I think that if a patient yelled at the to take a needle out, they'd look at them funny. My nurses, I yell at them to take the needle out, they take it out. Sometimes they will try again, a little higher or a little lower, or they'll set up the machine for single needle dialysis, which is actually kinda cool to watch. I started out with 2 sites, but I now have 3, which means they can alternate. It gives one site a bit of a rest
