us and fam easter 2013

First, the dr said hubby was a great canidate for a kidney.  Then, he was going to get some gal stones (i think that was what it was) removed and they said that if they wernt bothering him, they'ed rather not do the surgury due to heart function.. Well, i do understand not doing unnecessary surgury, but then it seemed to put a stop also to even getting tested to 'get on the list' or for us to get tested.  (Originally hubby said he WOULD NOT take my kidney.  With more info, i 'think' he may consider it) So my question is, does anyone think that because they wouldnt opt to do the more minor surgury, that that cancels out a kidney surgury???  Just tossing it around tonight.. also thinking mabie the daily will bring him into a whole new health that they will be more willing...  Just thinking...

I can understand a husband saying that he would not take his wife's kidney. I wouldn't take my wife's kidney for a number of reasons.

If your husband's initial view is serious, can't you accept that?

If your husband wants to get a transplant he needs to request an evaluation at your transplant hospital. He does not need a referral from his nephrologist.  If he is not considered to be a candidate due to heart problems or some other concern, they will let him know. If he is successful getting listed however, he can wait for a deceased donor kidney. In the meantime, if he's agreeable, you could inquire about being evaluated as a donor.

another thing about surgeries and being listed for a kidney....at my center they would not activate me on the list until I had my spleen removed. Also I had to have a liver biopsy again. They make you jump through hoops so their are not unforseen problems when you get a new kidney. so they may not list him until the gall stones are taken care of...bring the issue up to the neph again.

I am quite willing to give my hubby a kidney(and I am a match) but he will not take it from me. He is afraid that something will happen to be during the surgery.  That is is decision and I have to respect it.

Its precious Del, thats hubbys reasoning too, and i  have accepted it. I guess being willing partners is as good as it gets, and doing all we can to keep them healthy and happy is what we need to be content with.  Mabie i was feeling gulty for having what i assume is a perfectly good kidney, and seeing all of our people here getting kidneys sparked the desire in me again??? Dont know, but for now, i guess i'll hold on to it just incase  ;)
