When I was in the hospital in May, they had to give me two blood transfusions. For the first, I was still sedated, so they had to find my mother and ask her for consent. She was looking out for my chance for transplant, and expressed those concerns, and they came back and offered "clean" blood - she didn't ask about technical details, so the word "leukodepleted" didn't come up, or I would have specifically asked about it.
The next day when they wanted to give me the second transfusion, I was awake, and I expressed the same concerns (by typing on my phone, since I was still on a ventilator
), but the doctor wasn't present - I was dealing with a nurse. My mother had told me about the "clean" blood, and I asked the nurse about it. She had to go check with someone, and came back telling me there was no difference, all their blood was "clean" blood.
So, whether all blood is leukodepleted or not, I don't know, but it seems to lean that way.
I hope we're not hijacking the thread here.
