I'm a diabetic of over 20 years and have been on dialysis for about 4 years.  About a month ago, I took my sock off to discover a scrape on my left toe.  It's still there and being looked after but I'm beginning to worry.  I don't want to lose my toe!  I've been on antibiotics for about a week and will finish those on Sunday.  The toe just doesn't look like it's improving.  I've had x-rays and it doens't look to be infected.  I just wish it wouldn't look the way it does.  I suppose I just need some support and I know this is the best place for that!  I'll keep you posted on this toe situation....

Ambo, I too am diabetic and have dealt with wounds, some catastrophic. Have your pcp refer you to a wound care center. The specialists at the center I use are up on the latest innovations in wound care. They have ways to kickstart and accelerate healing in wounds that seem to have stopped improving. They have helped me heal wounds that seemed beyond repair.

It does take time for wounds to heal, so don't get too anxious.

Wounds when you are a renal patient take a long time to heal. Please do not worry i have had many wounds on my toes. Still have all ten. Nearly all my toe nails have gone now. 4 years ago the surgeon was going to amputate my right leg i said no, went through a lot of pain but still walking without a stick, leg still there. pain slowly going away now. The only time the leg troubles me is when I am on the machine, i am on strong pain killer pethidine. But its been worth it. just remember all renal patients go through a lot, you must have the will to come out the other side still fighting. Plus renal patients NEVER give up!!!!!!
