I HAVE BEEN A GOUT PATIENT FOR TEN YEARS, BEFORE I STARTED DIALYSIS, BUT I AM NOT AN ALCOHOLIC I WAS THE LUCKY FEMALE CHILD WHO INHERITED FROM MY FATHER, AND YES, IT CAN BE INHERITED.
I HAVE BEEN ON DIALYSIS FOR 1 YEAR AND LAST OCTOBER, I LOST MY LEFT LEG BELOW KNEE TO INFECTION (NOT DIABETIC). MY GOUT WAS ALWAYS IN LEFT FOOT AND AT THAT TIME I WAS ON ALLOPURINOL AND COCHICINE. DR TOOK ME OFF MEDS BECAUSE IT WAS NOT NECESSARY. GUESS WHAT...MY GOUT DECIDED TO COME BACK TO LEFT KNEE AND I WASN'T WALKING YET. I AM NOW ON 150 MG OF ALLOPURINOL DAILY. I DO TRY AND WATCH FOODS HIGH FOR GOUT.

my name is Barb and I am a dialysis victim since January 2009. I was doing some searching and came across this program and decided I needed some place to vent and find others who vent also. I am a dialysis member due to losing my fight kidney from stag horn stones and also carcinoid tumors that metasized to liver. Diagnosed in 1999 and left kidney got too tired in 2009. I am NOT diabetic but a lot of my symptoms come across as diabetic. I lost my leg below knee on 10/23/2009 due to vascular artery disease. doctors should have known there was a problem when 4 fistulas did not work in left
arm! This past week I had a Hero put in right arm. Hopefully this
will work. This is a brief summary of my life with dialysis.

I used to get gout attacks prior to dialysis - its the only good thing about being on D is not getting gout.

Diagnosised FSGS via biopsy 11/2006
Started Dialysis 5/2009
hemo-dialysis except 9.09-6.10 = peritoneal then back to hemo
currently in center hemo 3x per week
Evaluation for transplant July 2010
Almost received transplant 8.13
repeated calls and admissions for transplant since then but no kidney yet
3.1.14 got ideal kidney and having exceptional recovery - creatine went from 8.5 to 1.1 in less than 2 weeks.
