SHELBY — Art connoisseurs need little else for a fun time out than a stop at Cleveland Mall. And philanthropists have that same opportunity.

Leading up to the annual Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association Jail-a-Thon is “Pennies From Heaven,” a project fundraiser that doubles as an art show.

Silent auctions and sales are available for anyone interested in taking home a collectable or two, be it a crafted vase, painted portrait or even a decorated end table. Getting there is easy — it’s at the old Waldenbooks location.

Drop in and you might recognize a few of the artists: Burns High graduates Stephen Gstundtner and Perry Houlditch are among those featured.

CRKA Committee Chair Paula Fincannon is excited to show off local talent while working toward a good cause.

There will be two paid events during the CRKA fundraiser, which ends Saturday.  They include:

-Classes for children using recycled materials as a medium.  Admission will cost $15 for each class.  The next class is Saturday. The parents will able to view their children’s art that day at 6:00 p.m.  Silent auction bids will also be revealed.

-Art show featuring local artists, complete with a "Meet the Artist" session and wine-tasting.  Tickets are $10 for the Thursday night event, which starts at 7.

About CRKA:

Since 1980, the Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association has provided care to local dialysis patients.

There are several ways for the public to help the effort: a monetary contribution, donating a vehicle that the organization can sell to help fund efforts and donating groceries or household items.

Here are some items which are in constant need by CRKA: paper products, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, adult bladder-control briefs, Ensure and Boost, sugar-free diabetic items, white athletic socks, hard candy, clear sodas, and low sodium and low sugar foods.

For more information on how to donate to the Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association, call 704-481-9535 or send an e-mail to kidneyassn@aol.com. All donations are tax deductible.
