Not that my phosphorus is insane...
PIZZA!
Not to be miss sally sunshine here but I seriously need to vent. As I type this my dad is (as loudly as possible might I add) eating a slice. Right in front of me. (He has no clue I'm writing this but even though I've asked him to stop, he won't. "Why don't you have a piece?" he just asked. Oh now he's commenting on how wonderful it is. Oh my gosh I'm mad. My mom and brother are more sensitive but my dad doesn't get it sometimes. HELLO? IF I EAT PIZZA MY BONES COULD BREAK AND MY HEART MIGHT STOP! Yes I know moderation is okay and even good, but not when your numbers are dangerously high like mine are you have to resist totally until they get back to normal. I can't believe I can't wait to start dialysis- when my numbers get better I can eat a slice... but just one!)

I don't think it's fair to expect other people not to eat things that we can't eat.  That would be like expecting my husband never to have a drink if I was an alcoholic wouldn't it?  It's me that has the problem -not them.  But I would expect him to know that you can't have it!  Plus, I would have a little bit anyway!

But reading the other posts, I am very thankful to have my dad around, even though he doesn't understand kidney disease for anything (he has bipolarism, so I guess it's not his fault!) I guess I'll put up with his pizza eating... I'm thankful he's healthy enough to eat pizza (there were times he wasn't!)

Just on the people eating in front of you thing....

I am sort of with Hanify on this one. I have been out with people and am more than happy for them to eat, drink and be merry - I'd hate to think that they changed what they wanted just because of me. With my family or those that should understand well.. I don't mind, but eating something yummy in front of you and telling you how good it is - that's too much. You're trying to be good and do the right thing by you and that just isn't helping.

Sorry

I don't mind people eating and drinking things in front of me, although some days it almost drives me insane when all I want is a long cold drink, and everone seems to have bottles of water and juice. Because this is quite new to me and some of my friends really don't undertand why I suddenly went on this special diet, what really bugs me is them teasing me, like deliberatly passing round a giant chocolate bar - I am a chocoholic! I think my friends think its more of a fad diet, I can't get them to understand that I reall need to try and stick to it because my health is seriuosly at risk.

I miss having movie night with my mum, sister and best girl friends. We still have them but we don't have any snacks now. We used to order in pizza, get drunk and eat loads of chocolate. It is my 21st next month, and of all the plans that they are coming up with, I want to have a good old fashioned movie night! Pathetic or what?

I miss KFC and McDonalds!

Jen you CAN have a treat every so often. They don't expect us to be monks (ok in your case, nuns!) I think. I just am extra careful with binders and the like if I want to pig out. re eating pizza and drinking at movie night.. why can't your mum and sister and friends have pizza and drink? You can nurse a stiff drink (good excuse!  :rofl;) and just have a slice of pizza. I don't see why that stuff would have to stop just because of your diet.

As for friends not understanding... :( yeah that sucks. Too forever for me to get across to my mates at work when I say "I can't drink much" I am NOT just talking about alcohol!!!  :rofl;

but bugger it, I had a vodka & coke at lunchtime today (shhh! don't tell!)

I think I'd get away with it if it were not my mum I was having these nights with. She is the complete opposite to my friends and takes the diet way too seriously! Which isn't a bad thing. If she hadn't been there to enforce the rules I would have been in big trouble many a times, especially when I first started. My mum and sister have taken the opportunity to cut out all the crap in their diet as well, my mum likes reminding everyone now "we are a healthy household". I still have a wee drink with mates now and then, heck I'm a musician it'd be breaking all the rules for me to go tea-total, but I used to be a big party girl, so the change is quite dramatic - no more drunken table dancing  :rofl;
