Well, I off for another surgery tomorrow.  Problems with my PD cath again and may have another abdominal hernia with fluid leaking.  This will be the third time since July.  I'm starting to think maybe I should just switch to hemo and forget the PD.  I'm so tired of "feeling better" for a little while just to get sick all over again.  Which is where I should have started this rant.  Three weeks ago I went to E.R. with abdominal pain and a big "spot" around my belly button.  (kinda looks like a big blister). The ER doc had someone from surgery come to see me and review CT results.  Well the "student doctor" that came in was so rude.  She asked why I was there wasting my time in ER.  I told her my dialysis nurse told me to come in and she had the nerve to tell me not to call my nurse cause she don't know anything and that I should call my neph or vasc surgeon. (I was told to call my nurse if I had problems). She also said there "might be a little hernia with some fat pushing through" but it was nothing to worry about.  She had no idea what the "spot" could be but, "it should be fine".  She ended by saying that if my
surgeon thinks it's serious he will call me.  Well I never got a call so just lived with it until I went in to clinic for monthly labs and surprise surprise, they called surgeon and had him see me asap.  He knew nothing about ER visit and was highly upset at the student who seen me there.  He had me write all the details down and said she would be disciplined.  Of all my visits to the doctors and hospital, I've never had someone treat me like I was so dumb.  Everyone has always been overly nice.  I've since learned that there have been other complaints about this girl so I hope something is done with her this time.

Well, thanks for listening.  It just gets so frustrating as I'm sure you all know.

Oh poor Cloud....

I REALLY hope tomorrow sorts out the problem out for you!...

I can tell you when I have ANY concerns about my mum, I phone the PD Nurse Specialist first!... I find that they are a great resource... Any concerns, they either sort it, or get someone else to sort it... I told Mum's Neph. "With all due respect to you, Doc, if I'm worried about Mum, I'm ringing the PD Nurse first, not you!"... He grinned at me and replied "You're right, they know Elsie, they should be your first port of call... What do I know???"...

So I know he didn't take it personally, and I just feel better knowing the nurses know Mum well, and know if something's not quite right... I'd certainly trust the judgement of a PD nurse with twenty years experience in the field of PD much sooner than a student doctor, or even a newly qualified one... No offence, Docs!... ;D

May God bless and protect you, and with a bit of luck, tommorrow will sort out the problem....

Love and  :grouphug;...

cloud393, That sounds awful what you went through, I am so glad that they are going to sort you out. PD or Hemo, my husband, like you is having his second catheter sorted next week, they positioned it too high and he is not draining very well. He had to go on to emergency hemo for three months after an infection and was he glad when it was all clear and they inserted his tube, even though it doesn't work very well. He prefers PD. There are for's and against for both. Do what you think is right for you. Good luck with the surgery.

I find a lot of student doctors can be kind of rude at times. Maybe it's something that I don't know, but anyways I usually call my neph first because there's no after hour numbers for my hemo center.
Good luck and let us know how you do.
