Surprise, surprise

Every month I dread the lab work. I don't have problems with anything except proitein and eating enough. Well today when the dietian came around she didn't have anything to say! Protein is finally in normal range. Best news I have had.

I had blood work drawn the day I got back from vacation. Sigh. What are they thinking?
Good for you that those protein levels are up!

Good for you, Pam. That is something I am always working on--protein. It isn't easy, is it? Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I hate that time of the month. I have only really been out of range one time and I felt like a complete idiot and was beating myself up for a long time about it.
My clinic gives us smiley face stickers when we are good, so here is yours....................

Thanks kana for that smiley! Our center does not give them out. My Dietiian is very nice, but has a very annoying voice. when she handed me my paper and said she didn't need to go over anything, I felt like I won the lottery!

For those of you with low albumin levels, you are not alone. For the entire time I was on PD I had high albumin levels and the dieticians were always happy. As soon as I switched to hemo, my albumin levels were very low. Granted I had also gone through peritonitis so I was very sick, but I had to get my protien up and with low appetite it wasn't easy. How did I do it?
With the help of these little candy bars called Detour. They are tasty and have 30g of whey protien per bar. I don't sell these things so this isn't a sales pitch or anything, and you still have to eat right wth the rest of your diet, but they really helped me and I hope they help someone else.
I also tried the whey protien powder you make milk shakes from. Yuck! It didn't taste good at all.

Yeah! thats something we're working on... It's so wonderful when ya get good news like that!!! We did get a whey powder and heres how we're doing it. Two big handfuls of ice, 1/3 cup of orange juce (his potassum and phos are good), and a scoop of the vanella powder. Tastes just like the old orange julies (sp)... I'ts really really good and hubby's not usually up to even trying things like that and he loves it. we just make sure its slushey and it's real yummy and he uses it as a snack. We will be on it a month when he gets next draw so hopfully, we'll see some results. Gonna try that detour bar as well...

I'm drinking two renal drinks a day at the mo. I'm on PD so can manage that. Hopefully that will help. Oh - and trying to eat meat every meal of course...
