They gave it to me during dialysis yesterday.

Totally sweet. No problems. No reaction... no nothing!!!

Very happy to hopefully be safe from the swine flu :)

Now if only I could shake this twitch near my backside and this unusual craving for bacon......  :rofl;

I don't know if I'll bother with the H1N1, spoke to my transplant co-ordinator this week about getting the pneumonia one.
What are peoples thoughts? Should everyone on dialysis get the H1N1 shot? ???

I'm sure I had the swine flu in the 70's, so I'm not going to get it.  I love bacon!

Got mine yesterday also.  Dreadful line up for up to 5 hours for some people.  Lee had gone in the day before to ask about me being immunnosuppressed and a security person told him she'd get me to the front since waiting with such a huge crowd wasn't a great idea.
True to her word she had me the third person in there.  Sore arm muscle today but otherwise I feel no different.  Not sure when the seasonal flu shot will be available for me.

Not at all impressed by Health Canada's management of these vaccination clinics.  Your basic zoo.  I hope the dialysis units are administering them on site like they did for you Richard.

I don't plan on getting the vaccination.  Why?  I really don't know.  I'm so afraid that two years from now they are going to say "oops", we just found out that the vaccination causes........ bla, bla, bla.

By no means base your decisions on me.  I'm always so skepticall about every thing!  I'm beginning to think I'm just plain nuts!!

Well sico, as I said our unit came around last week and offered all of us them. We're in the hightened risk category (ie: those with a chronic medical condition) and it is recommended we have it. Some of the patients had already gotten theirs through their GP and others plain refused(their choice). I have had the regular flu shot for the past 5 years (work organises them every year for us - free! :) ) and the neph recommended I have that shot, and clearly that recommend the swine flu shot too so I figured hey another needle who cares right? I just had to sit there and take it so no big deal in terms of having it so it was an easy decision for me - I basically didn't have to lift a finger!  :rofl;

Besides it's made by Melbourne company CSL how could I not trust it? (I say that as a proud citizen AND shareholder!!  :rofl;)

I just thought I'd share that I have had NO issues with it and so far no reaction and so far all good.

Just don't tell the dietician I am half way through my third bacon double cheeseburger.....

Next time you see your neph, tell him thanks for the shot, now you feel a lot more comfortable that you won't get swine flu when you go out to all those crowded college raves.  :rofl;

Yeah I've seen the H1N1 ads on TV Rich, saying to get it if you've got a chronic illness. I think they mention kidney problems. Got to see my GP soon for a script anyway. Or maybe my PD unit.

Goofy, I am totally with you. I just dont trust that stuff when it has not been out that long. Kind of uncertain about that.
 I guess i cant now. In Detroit there is a shortage and they are sending people to the public health department. I just got a call from my center saying that i have to go to a place called Herman Keeper, which is in a extremely dangerous area of Detroit. I dont feel comfortable going there by myself, neither does anyone else I know! Oh well, I guess they are going to consider me non-compliant. Is there any proof that you got the shot?

Right... Got mine yesterday....

Feeling a little bit off... Slight headache, and arm feels a little bit mangled, but nothing major....

Lisa, in Ireland the doctor issues you with a wallet sized card stating you've had the shot...

The county that I live in only has the mist and I was told that dialysis patients can't get that.  I keep hoping the unit will get the vaccine but nothing yet :(  With a school age child, I want to be safe, but she hasn't been able to get it either since it isn't available close to home yet.

My transplant unit said to get one but I haven't called the doctor's office yet to get it scheduled.  Kidney patients should be getting one according to the guidance out there. According to our Health Department the adults that have died have all had underlying medical conditions.  But, it is always a personal choice like almost everything except possibly taxes.

Wash those hands!!!!!

Well just wanted to report that it's Monday night. I had the shot on Thursday. Ever since I got home around 7:30pm I had to lie down and I've felt very sluggish all night and kind of disoriented (I feel better now which is why I can post here). I'm sure it's got nothing to do with the vaccine, since I had that days ago, but it hasn't been a good night... I've had a very long cat nap (kitty came and sat snuggled against my fistula :) ).... so I dunno. Maybe it's just general "you need dialysis buddy!" tiredness. I'll add more tomorrow (luckily it is a holiday here so all I have to do is dialysis, no work :) )

I was much better today - even before dialysis... so whatever it was I'd say had nothing to do with piggy. Probably just the usual kidney failure blues. Anyway I'm back on track now :) >:D

The flu vaccine has been out for years and this vaccine was made the same way as the seasonal one is every year.  So it isn't entirely new.

I got mine the other day.

EVERYONE, unless you live in a cave, will get this virus. I didn't want to worry about when I was going to catch it.
I work in a hospital and we get an average of 20 people a day in the ER with the flu.  So, ask yourself how often is your Hemo/PD neighbor in the hospital ER waiting room?  It wont take long for them to pick it up in the hospital and bring in to the dialysis unit at the clinic near you.   This is the reality of this flu bug.

My husband had his shot last Sunday and he had no after effects at all.  His arm wasn't even tender!!!  I have to wait to get mine because there is a shortage of vaccine. I just hope I don't get it.  Some of my students at school have been out sick with the flu!!
