I have had a working fistula for about 6 months. The nurses and techs always comment on how fragile it is. I have been infiltrated about 15 times. The upper part of the fistula is deep and they rarely can get it working before it infiltrates.  I have had pain in that part of my fistula all weekend and a few times I've had a hard time finding the thrill.  I'm hoping it isn't a sign of my fistula "going south" because I am hoping to get a transplant in the next few months and I would hate to have a permcath again.  I haven't used that part of my fistula in a few weeks (too bruised from the infiltration two weeks ago).  Should I be having pain (and a heavy feeling) in my fistula even if I"m not getting stuck in that part?

It may be thrombosing and all you would need is a fistulagram to see for sure and they may be able to balloon it out.  If you are going to get a transplant soon you need to call your vascular surgeon or your Nephrologist and tell them what is going on.  You want to save it until your transplant.

The nurses at my center checked out my fistula and said it was probably a strain of some type. I am still very active and forget that my fistula is there and lift too much before I know it.  My pressures were good and no infiltration today so I guess I'm in the clear. YEAH!
