Is it always going to be like this on hemo? Last 2 sessions pulled loads of fluid off me , 3300 in 2 hours and 3200 in 3 and a half hours , felt great after both. Today pulled 2400 off in 4 hours and feel crap , got that blinding headache again , also felt funny like lightheaded and heart was racing for a good few hours when i got home.  Anyone suggest whats going on ? I still dont understand enough about the machines so have to take the nurses word that what im doing is best (and they all have their own ideas!)

Hi Kickstart, To-day is the first day my husband has felt any where near right since he went on Hemo. As I said before we are going through the same thing, at the same time. Mondays session pulled loads of fluid off, too much I think he was knackered when he came home, but they are trying to get down to his dry weight. He has lost a lot of body weight over the last 10 weeks, what with the bug and being hospitalized,  Wednesdays session they only took a little off and he feels tons better, not right, but a lot better, he actually took the grand kids on the park and wasn't out of breath, or so he told me.
 He went for a pre op Wednesday  and they told him the operation to have his tube replaced, had been cancelled due to him not being well enough. They have given him an appointment  for late September.
Have you reached your dry weight yet? Is your HB going up any, and are they giving you iron injections? I agree the nurses all have there own ideas, do you have to weigh in at the start of your session and weigh out after? Yes he has been feeling crap like you, I hope to-day was not just a one off. I think you both need loads of hugs for going through all this.

2 good sessions out of 3 is better than none, hey?

when i did hemo, two good runs per week was a rare event for me...
keep on keepin on!

LL the 3rd day was the day they took off the least fluid over the longest time . Its when they have really pulled it off fast and lots of it that i feel ok !!
billybags .. no i havent reached my dry weight yet , still a fair bit to go ! Ive had a transfusion on saturday and iron and iron again today because my HB was 6.1  !!!It had come up to 8.1 today , so still a bit to go there as well. Yes we weigh in, im also on a profile , not sure yet what that is , but others on here have said its a good thing as far as i recall . (give me PD any day !)  :2thumbsup;

How is the BP?  If you are on a profile, have them try # 4.  It sort of gives you a recovery time during the treatment.  Takes off fluid, then backs off, the whole treatment, back and forth.  Easier on the system.  The fluid total will end up the same, but easier on your body.  Also, they could try some "Mannitol, or Albumin".  It's given IV during the treatment.  It will "shift" some of the fluid from your tissue, into the blood stream, allowing it to be removed easier.  Hope this helps, and try not to get discouraged.

yeah, but they took a lot off the first two days, and maybe that was just right? either that, or they didn't take off enough. you'll feel a lot better i bet when they get you closer to your dry weight.
nursewratchet's suggestions are excellent ones!
