Okay so today- Thursday, my sister is at the hospital meeting with the surgeon(S). She had a couple more blood tests to do and stuff Tuesday: HIV, etc. The Committee will be meeting Monday to hopefully decide yes or no and on a date for transplant. My question is this... How long does it take for them to  make a decision and how do we find out their decision??/

Every center is different. It can take several weeks but I have heard it taking up to a year! It's up to the donor to keep current with the transplant team to be sure they get all the info they need to make their decision. Hopefully you'll have an answer soon!  :cheer:

Diagnosed Nov 2007 with Multiple Myeloma.
By Jan 2008 was in end stage renal failure and on haemodialysis.
Changed to CAPD in April 2008.  Now on PD with a cycler.  Working very part time - teaching music.  Love it.  Husband is Paul (we're both 46), daughter Molly is 13.

By the time I get to the final blood work, I always feel that the committee meeting is just a formality. I always ask for all results from labs and other tests along the way. Your sister could always speak to her coordinator and ask if there were any medical or psychosocial concerns.

Personally, I truly resent it when a hospital tries to make this into a giant production, as if you are waiting on an acceptance letter to grad school or something. Some hospitals love the drama of it. I think I usually found out within days of the meeting, but I never knew ahead of time when the committee was meeting because I did not care - I already knew the answer.

When I had my kidney transplant in 2005, it took 11 months for them to do all the tests necessary for my donor and then to schedule a convenient date for the surgery but I guess it can somehow vary. That was my time period...
