My post is a sarcastic joke, but I believe Bill is serious.
I googled it and I could not find anything suggesting that the sauna will replace dialysis. Sorry for the bad news.
I thought it was a bad joke on his part for even suggestion that he uses a sauna instead of dialysis. He does not even go for regular blood tests to proof that it works.

Each to their own I suppose.

If only it did work- but saunas cannot replace dialysis. If there was an alternative that would be so simple- but I beleive he is giving bad, dangerous advice. Yes- it can be used to sweat out some fluid, but dont overdo it. This guy Bill- is at 40% function so his advice is not for people with little or no function.

I agree bad and potentially dangerous advice, I do not think my local Health Authority would be paying out thousands of pounds ( £s ) a year if they could get away with a pine box and steam!

I was just curious about this subject so I just did a little mini research on the subject over the internet.

I found the following information:

Heart rate increases significantly from the first few minutes of entering a sauna. Blood pressure will also increase, even in healthy individuals. The skin reddens, pores open and unless a person is dehydrated, they will begin to sweat profusely.
Asthma sufferers should not go into a sauna alone, in case the sauna heat triggers a asthma attack. Sauna users with cardiovascular disease risk heart attack or stroke from the sauna's intense heat.

If public sauna is used, you should sit on a towel or other protective barrier in the sauna to avoid transmitting diseases.

Thank you so much for assisting me on this..... I was really worried that some people will just stop dialysing and follow Bill in doing his daily sauna routine.

I just can't stress enough how dangerous it is to try any new fad that comes along expecially if it has no scientific proof.

As I said in the other thread - I have a bad feeling about this Billybill.  I'm gathering that a lot of us have had PM's from him too - it sounds awfully like some kind of hard sell to me.  Sorry if that's not the case Billybill and you are just genuinely enthusiastic - but you need to be careful about who to try to do the hard sell to.  I do pd and therefore can't have saunas anyway!

For about a year I took a sauna once a week - on my dialysis "weekend" (ie: the time when I had the extra day)... I found it helped to cut out some fluid, and while yes sweating can mean you sweat out toxins, it is NOT a replacement for dialysis and it would be silly and potentially dangerous to do it(specially given those on fluid restrictions might sweat out too much!). I stopped it when they decided to close the sauna in my building, and I had also taken to long walks anyway which was better for exercise than sitting on my backside in the sauna

Plus there are other fun ways to sweat out fluid !!!
