When I was on PD, the doctors had a fistula placed into my arm. It is the policy of the hospital so that if for some reasons somethings goes wrong when you are on PD, they can put you on hemo without any problems.
I only have been on hemo 2 or 3 times and had a transplant since and the fistula is still working. I am alway wearing short sleeve shirt and not very people have noticed that I have one less they are told.
Certainly I would recomment that you still have a fistula even if you go on PD.
