Get the fistula ASAP.  It will take 4-8 weeks to mature.  After it is being used, usually after 3 successful treatments without complication from the fistula, the catheter will come out.  Fistulas hardly ever clot, but they can.

I have a hemo cathather. I use a hand held shower nozzle. I wrap my cathather with plastic wrap. I am always careful not to go near the cathather with the nozzle...especially when i go to wash my hair. So far I've been able to wash my hair without getting the catheter wet.
When i get my PD cathather I have no idea how I am going to bathe.

?
I thought with a PD cath. you could shower bath and even swim in pools and the ocean just not lakes..
But i am sure someone will verify or disclaim this.

I hope one can shower with a PD cath.

I have used a Tagaderm (4 x 43/4") transparent dressing from day one. I place it over the bandage that they put on at the center. It's never gotten wet but I use a spray nozzle in the tub and not a shower. I am looking forward to the day I can stand in a hot shower for a long time! A very nice nurse gave me a bunch of the Tagaderm dressings in the hospital and thereafter, every time I was back there for my numerous appts and procedures, I'd always ask for as many as they could spare. (It never hurts to ask right?) They always gave me a few to several. I finally used my last one yesterday and went to price them today at a medical supply store. They are almost $5.00 for one single dressing!!  :urcrazy;  I went to Walgreens and bought some waterproof Nexcare sport pads and Johnson & Johnson waterproof pads for about $1 each. Smaller but hopefully will do the trick.

I found some tegaderm on ebay for 50cents/sheet.  Much better.
For those of you with sensitive skin, I have used a skin barrier wipe on my skin before any tape is placed. It helps 150%. Without it, my skin tears and bleeds  :'(.
