Preview of 'ER' 15.18: What We Do

February 27, 2009 08:07:26 GMT

Dr. Carter is hooked up to a machine and he is in desperate need of a medical treatment, all new in 'ER'.

See larger image

There is a big reason why Dr. Carter is back in the "ER". Next week on the medical drama, the man who has saved many lives is now begging for life as he is attached to a dialysis machine. Called "What We Do", the fifth episode before season finale, airs March 5

Meanwhile, a camera crew interviews the staff at County General for a documentary on emergency medicine. Morris' cop girlfriend gets injured on the job and is rushed into the ER with gunshot wounds. Neela wonders why her relationship with Brenner lacks so much communication. Sam struggles to make amends with her mother (guest star Amy Madigan).

Warning spoiler ahead. Carter is waiting for a kidney transplant which he will get in the March 12 episode. But before that he will receive a visit from an old friend, Dr. Benton (guest star Eriq La Salle) who will help him in time of crisis.

Cool!  I think this is a tremendous opportunity to educate the public about renal disease.   :2thumbsup;

I wonder if they will reveal the reason for Dr. Carter's renal failure?

I think it is a great opportunity too. Hope the writers have something good to come.

it seems the words kidney and dialysis have come up in quite a few shows recently.

SPOILER ALERT for episode 15:19 "Old Times" (follow-up to this episode)

I started watching ER again because I heard Noah Wyle's character Dr. Carter would be undergoing Dialysis so it peaked my interest.

But now its pissed me off.

He was only on Dialysis and somehow by some act of writer magic, he recieves a transplant.

So much for educating the public on how long it TRULY takes to receive a kidney.

I have common genetic markers and five years later, no kidney.

Yes, I'll watch the rest of the season, but you've totally lost my trust and respect "ER."
