Since I have been diagnosesd with kidney failure I have been experiencing an extreme ammount  expelling of gas(farting).  Also my bowel movement have required more laxatives.  Is this a common occurence withy failure.  Its gtten worse since I entered trhe dialysis program 5 weeks ago.  I plan to pose this question also to my Dr. when I next see him, which will be at a dialysis session this week I believe.

Binders can cause constipation, not to mention the ghastly renal diet which is low on fiber.  Let us know what your doctor says because others here have mentioned similar problems.

Happens all the time. I usually just have one of the nurses pull my finger.

Hey southyard, How are you.I wanted to let you know that this subject because it is dialysis related should have been started in the Dialysis-General Discussion forum. I am so glad you are getting around the site though. I am going to keep it here for you this time but if someone else moves it you will know where to find this topic. Keep posting and I hope you get your problem resolved.

This is very interesting.  Last Friday, during dialysis, I had a terrible pain in my tummy.  Then IT started.  I was so embarrassed.  Thankfully, it was silent and non-violent.  But that had never happened like that before.  when i came off, I started to talk about my cramping experience with another dialysis patient with whom I was travelling. Then she said "And I had such a problem with passing gas, that I told the nurses not to let anyone come to see me".  I was so surprised.  she told me that the nephrologist told her that it happens with dialysis patients.  But that was my first experience.  Hope it doesn't happen again.

Fats, farts and more farts while on dialysis. It can be embarrassing.  All I know is do not come near me when I am hooked up.  I think it is the binders and toxins being a combination.

i also experience a day or two of bad gas at home sometimes on weekends. i seem to fart like every 2 - 5 minutes (not exaggerating)
