Hi:
My Neph Team are really pushing me to think about starting Dialysis saying that results are better when you start early. My GFR is 17 and Creatin 3.7. Was wondering what your labs were when you started. I've told my Nephs that it seems are goals differ - I'm trying to postpone the inevitable as long as possible. Aside from swelling in my ankles I feel pretty good for a 72 year old guy. Would appreciate any input you can give me.
Thanks: Bruce

I don't remember all my labs because I had to start dialysis immediately after my CKD diagnosis, but I do know that my GFR was 12, my creatinine 6, and my hemoglobin was less than 7 (I was so anemic that I had to have a blood transfusion).

I will be starting dialysis this week with a GFR of 9.

FWIW... my creatinine was 6.7 and my BUN was over 100 for many months. I didn't have any 'symptoms' such as nausea. vomiting etc. but I did have extreme lethargy. My doc strongly recommended starting dialysis mostly because of the BUN.
I hope this is helpful.

My GFR was actually in the 15-17% range but I found out that I could get Social Security Disability as soon as I started dialysis. I took the money and ran.
P.S. I'm stilll running.....three times a week :rofl; :rofl;

Have you ever boiled a frog? the frog doesn't know it's getting boiled because its body keep adapting to the changes until it is dead. in other words you don't know you are sick until you have something to compare it to. I also wanted to wanted put it off until thelast possible moment i think that is called denial. But know i think i was alot better off starting it earlier than later.After that i could tell how sick i was.

GFR was 10 and creat was 7.9 but it went to 7.7 on the ssi/ssdi app.

My creatine when I started in the hospital was 31. My hemoglobin was 5, and my platelet count was at 50,000.

I am not on dialysis yet but I am looking down the barrel. My creatine is 4.0 and my GFR is 13 I think. My doc (and me) really want to hold off on dialysis. Of course ideally I would like to go from this transplant to another one but no one in my family has stepped forward to get tested. Oh well...
I do have edema :( and I take Procrit for my anemia. :P I know dialysis is right around the corner and half of me is thinking :banghead; lets get it over with. What the heck.

I am getting closer and closer but haven't started yet. Last visit, 2 weeks ago, my creat was at 6.7 and my gfr was at 8. I still feel pretty good but I just have no energy...if I lay around all day it is a pretty good day, but we all know how fun of a day that is! BTW Devon, if you read this, how are you doing on dialysis? It has been about a month now right?
