City should run vans later
Article Launched: 08/11/2008 07:57:06 PM PDT
It is my privilege to use the city of Fontana's senior transportation van to go to dialysis three times a week and to see the doctor at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.
My problem is that the buses do not run after 3 p.m. and they quit picking up riders about 2 p.m. My dialysis time is 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Often, something goes wrong and I do not finish on time. A few times, I have risked my safety and driven my electric wheelchair home. It takes me about one hour to do so. There are no sidewalks along some parts of the route, so I must drive in the road.
When making an appointment at Kaiser, it must be early in case there are prescriptions, lab tests, X-rays, etc. I always try to make them early in the day.
I suggest the vans run until 5 p.m. This should accommodate everyone.
