I gag very hard but do not vomit
I get sweaty behind my neck - real sweaty
I have trouble breathing
happened at 3am today
and the again in the dialysis waiting lobby
when this is going on it is hard to get the energy to walk from the van to dialysis
did not happen before parathyroid surgery
my calcium is below 6 and I think it should be at 9 or above
the doc says my body is adjusting to the surgery
but I feel horrible and I never know when it will happen again
please help

According to my report card calcium range is 8.4-10.2 (but it's probably a little bit lower for women. It could also be anxiety attacks. I'd ask the doc again.

you may be right ---- it happens on dialysis mornings
I told the rounds doc today and he did not connect it
are you on insurance

The calcium being so low is not good.  Get some Tums and start taking them regularly if you can to bring it up.

I like them - like eating candy
Dr Flip may be on to something
today is not a dialysis day and it did not happen
but my calcium is still low
I get so sick
how could it be anxiety

I wonder why he said not to take Tums?  My neph says to use them.  It is interesting how different doctors can be.  That is why IHD helps so much.    Hope you start feeling better and you can get your calcium level up.

Calcium below 6 is extremely, extremely low. Every one around you should be panicking!!! If dr #1 is not reacting to it, pursue it until someone does! Calcium is important for your heart to beat right.

Symptoms of low calcium (any or all of these,progressively worse)
Tingling around the mouth and/or in the extremities
Twitching - mouth, tongue, and/or extremities
Jerking - Arms, legs
Cramping - anywhere
Seizure

Rolando has been in the mid 6s but feels symptoms in the mid to low 7s. The dietician gets concerned as soon as he drops below 8.0. Rolando's nephrologist tells us to use symptoms as the trigger for treatment. He has experienced the first 4 symptoms and we've seen someone in the unit with a recent parathyroidectomy seize from low calcium (I don't know how low...) We use Oscal with Vitamin D (nice chewables) or Walgreen's Natural (all are calcium carbonate). We also have calcium citrate that we haven't used yet. I was thinking that the issue with TUMS was their magnesium content, but a review of the labels reveals magnesium in everything I've mentioned.

Twirl, how is your phosphorus?
