Title: Snowbird?
Post by: prospector on July 24, 2008, 09:40:00 PM
Has anyone had experience spending 3-4 months in a RV during the winter? We would like to go to a warmer climate.  I would be interested in any information you could furnish.

i have never spent time in an rv, but i did spend a month at my mothers in may. because i was in one place for a length of time there was no problem setting up my dialysis. i went to a clinic about 10 miles from her home. if you are going to be in one place for any length of time or even just one day your social worker will set things up. you just need to know where and when you will be there. some areas might not have a clinic close by with space for visitors. if you are going to be in an area with any amount of tourism there shouldn't be a problem though. just decide where your are want to go and look into it. you can find the location of any center on line and ask sw to check a specific one.

Hi prospector,

My father lives in southern FL and my husband and I have traveled down there several times.  The longest time we were there was about 3 1/2 weeks back in April 2006.  We've been there since but have only stayed a week or a little longer each time.  Now we're planning on flying down again in mid October and we'll be staying for 3+ weeks this time.  While there we'll be staying in my dad's RV and the main problem we run into is where to store all of my PD boxes.  There just isn't enough room in the 5th wheel for everything.  Luckily my father has a larger home than the trailer so we'll be able to store some of my stuff at his place.  He also has a number of friends in the park where he lives who are snowbirds and who will let us store some boxes at their places if we need to.  At the clinic that I go to, if you plan on vacationing in an area and will be there for more than a month, they like to actually transfer you to a new clinic in the area where you'll be staying.  Then you'd have medical care close to you and you'd be able to arrange for your supplies delivery each month from them.
