As we all know, dialysis is a very painful process that causes nausea, cramping and vomiting. So, do you?
-
Here's the reason people on "the list" don't use it --> http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=8445.0

Pray and Healthy thoughts.
-
I dont see how it would help with cramping and vomiting , but have often wondered if it would help with the insomnia ? ???
-
it helps a lot of people on chemo with both the vomitting and lack of appetite. BUT if you want a transplant- they don't care what your reason is...its a No-No.
Of course after transplant its too risky, Aspergillosis.
-
GLITTER ...is THAT your cat ????????? Wow what a whopper ! :rofl;
-
no- i was just so amazed with its girth....
-
(catnip? yeah, right cat...) that's what the munchies will do to you!
-
If I could I probably would, if I needed it for medical purposes. Puff puff puff!
-
I used it when having chemo for appetite and got it from an illegal source (shhhhh, don't tell).
I don't really like it's affect on me though, so I don't use it. I didn't know its use could
hinder chances for a transplant till I read about it here and that is just one more reason not to use it.
But I can understand why someone would use it and am a proponent of legalizing it.
-
yes, I use a type of mary jane but it comes in a pill that the insurance co pays for this way it does not harm your lungs. just make sure your groceries are bought before you take your pill otherwise you may be stopped for dwi. hope you feel better.
-
One of my young dialysis mates smokes it for nausea. He says it works much better than phenergan.
-
Have in the past. It helps with the appetite, blood pressure, insomnia, and gereral anxiety. But it does tend to effect how your blood clots (gave me more of them) and also there is the whole "list" thing. If you're on the list I would reccomend the legal approach first...depending on where you live medical marijuana may or may not be legal. (It actually is in 13 states) But again, even then it may conflict with the rules of your transplant program. If you're not on the list then I would say do whatever makes you feel best.

I've seen Veterans at certain VA Hospitals smoke it before going on the machine. What surprised me was how the staff KNEW they were doing it and simply continued their treatment. I've been tempted, but I never would. I'm too chicken. Besides, a good dose of Benadryl in my lines usually puts me to sleep.
-
Whew, love that Benedryl!!!
Nope, never smoked it for nausea or pain... know people who do.... I guess I'm just a weenie.... one little toke and I get nauseated (... hey, it was a long time ago... :2thumbsup; )
-
yup. i find it helps with a number of issues that would take several prescription medications to cover.
it doesn't get rid of pain, but it sure helps put it in 'another room'-so to speak. ;)
also, it eases nausea, improves my appetite, helps me get to sleep and also relaxes me, often bringing my blood pressure down to a more 'normal' rate. as for it being illegal, all that does is subsidise and continue the efforts of organized crime. its not an issue for a transplant, here in canada.
the only reason its illegal is because the governments can't figure out a way to tax it.
:guitar:

Just grow it and package it like cigarettes. The sure have no problem taxing those. In other countries where it is legal Marlboro actually has a marijuana cigarette on the market called True Blues I believe it is.

yes, but I don't inhale

yes, but I don't inhale
:rofl;
I was waiting for someone to say that!
-
I have freinds who smoke it. I am on the transplant list so I pass...Boxman
-
It must work. I don't remember any pain from the 1960's. As a matter of fact, I don't even remember the 1960's.
-
I am opened to options

i wasn't going to post but after doing alot of thinking I'll post here goes
i got my transplant on 12-6 07 got released from de hospital on 12-17-07. I was home for over to weeks and for dat whole two weeks i didn't eat one thing i only drank and dat was de only thing dat kept me from dehydrating i told de Dr.s where i got my transplant dat i had not eaten in two weeks he told me to wait and see wat happens. So i said the hell wit dat and i went and got me sum fruit( wat i call sum real real good chronic). Now I'm honest wit my Dr.s all the time so i told them wat i did and to my amazement he said OK (PLEASE DON'T TAKE DIS AS ME SAYING IT'S KOOL TO SMOKE WEED I'M NOT SAYING DAT) all I'm saying is if it was a way for me to be able to eat and not have to smoke weed.this y i wasn't going to post but i figured dat i needed to say sump thng IT'S NOT FUN HAVING TO SMOKE IN ORDER TO EAT TRUST ME I HAVE TO DO IT EVERYDAY
-
is it not dangerous to smoke AFTER a transplant? because of aspergillious? (might be spelled wrong)
-
I'm a sceptic, I have been on dialysis but never had the need to puff or chase the dragon. I suppose any excuse will do. If it really does help then tablet form should be taken.
-
My husband smoked when he had pain before his surgery last year. He says it really helped a lot. Helped him sleep, too.
-
considering our reality, I'm all for anyone wanting to alter it...but be aware of the possible consequences if you're on the wait list!
-
by the way, it is not standard practice or policy to omit someone from the transplant list if they are a pot user.
it is up to individual hospitals to make that decision, and if the hospital is run by those who have been brainwashed to believe that pot is 'bad' - of course they will strive to promote their agenda as much as they can. even if it costs a life of two.
-
just pass the joint please
-
I take pain meds which seem to do the trick for me..Ive never smoked marijuana even when I was healthy so im not sure how it makes you feel.. Im like the only person I know my age who hasnt tried it..LoL
-
I am also the only person I know who has never done marijuana or drink to excess.
-
I am also the only person I know who has never done marijuana or drink to excess.
Now you "know" another person kitkat, me! I have never tried marijuana or any illegal drug. Just the thought of trying one, scares the hell out of me. I also don't like to drink to excess very often. I don't have a high tolerance to alcohol and I can get blitzed way too easily, so it's hardly ever that I do drink alot.
Rob would never think of doing marijuana for medicinal purposes, he could lose his job (he gets random drug tests) and he doesn't like the way it makes him feel. He also doesn't handle pain pills well, they make him feel like crap. I'm the same way, I had to take them after an operation and it made me feel horrible, so I just threw them away.
-
The lack of rain here has really hurt the crop this year. This will probably drive the price up. Actually, I don't know of anyone who smokes weed for pain. Nausea-yes, pain-no.
-
Flip I can send you some bottled water---- will that help
-
yep....just mix in a little Miracle Grow
-
it is a done deal :yahoo;

Never took marijuana (though a Caribbean person), smoked about 3 cigarettes in my life, and am not a regular drinker (except I am in a French country).
I don't even know what marijuana smells like. I taught for years here in a classroom looking down onto the street where there is this historic tree (freedom for the slaves was proclaimed here). the guys used to be smoking out there. Kids would come into my classroom and say "Ma'am, you got the good stuff in here!" But I don't really know the smell. I wanted someone to actually smoke some so I could be able to detect the smell, but that hasn't happened. I would be driving with someone and they would say, as we passed an area,"Girl, you smell that?", but nothing.
As a teacher I wanted to be able to distinguish it so that, passing the bathrooms, etc., I would know if someone was smoking, but I never learnt. don't suppose it matters now....
