Title: Metallic taste in mouth
Post by: kellyt on May 23, 2008, 09:10:16 AM
I've heard this mentioned several times here and although I am not currently experiencing this or the amonia body smell, I was wondering...

When you start dialysis does the metaliic taste go away?

What, if anything, can you take/eat/drink or suck on to help with the metallic taste?

I heard someone describe the taste as "sucking on pennies" and that makes me want to puke!

 :thx;

I use tic tacs or lemon drops and brush my teeth quite often.  I'm pretty sure that I remember it going away (but would come back occasionally) the last time I was on dialysis.  For me it tastes like I just drank a bit of ammonia that has been sitting a while in a metal cup.  It burns my throat and tongue a bit too.  You may not experience it at all Kelly and I hope that's the case.

Yes, thankfully, it went away after I was on dialysis for a few weeks.
