anybody have this problem? i recently have had nosebleeds added to my list of side-effects, it seems.
i mentioned it at the dialysis clinic to a nurse and she casually replied, 'its probably due to dry skin.'
????? WTF???
sure, i do have high blood pressure, but the meds i take for that seem to be quite effective in keeping it down to a reasonable level...140/70-ish.... i suspect that its one of, or a combination of the meds i am taking, like metoprolol, perhaps.
any suggestions or advice?
thanks.

The lady who now sits next to me at dialysis is new and has been having a problem with nosebleeds. They have reduced her heparin and it's working so far.
-
I was thinking heparin or coumadin (if you're on it) but I often get nosebleeds from dry air in the wintertime.
-
Sorry never had nose bleeds and got very high b.p. ! Stress can sometimes cause nosebleeds you know !
-
don't pick your nose. (ha ha, couldn't help it. Sorry if you really are having a time with this, it would be annoying.)
-
thanks folks. i'm not on heparin or coumadin, and i'm no more stressed out than usual. so maybe there is something to the long winter we just came through and the dryness of the air.
i did find a website that mentions the possibility of nosebleeds from the use of metoprolol, but it is a rare side-effect, it said.
then again, i am a rare creature too, or so i've been told...
:shy;

I hope they get less frequent as the weather changes and the humidity rises. I find it helps tremendously to keep a room humidifier in my bedroom at night during the winter. Take care rare creature.

well, to be honest, it wasn't really a 'rare creature' that i was called. it was how i chose to interpet 'weird asshole'.
:sir ken;

Hi, my husband suffers from sporadic nosebleeds. In the winter it was more frequent. But just now we were eating dinner and his nose just started bleeding. He is not heprin or coumodin. So he puts a tissue or gauze pad and pinches his nose.
Any other hints to stopping the bleed would be appreciated. Thanks

I used to get nose bleeds often. The doctor said I had blood vessels close to the skin surface within my nose and suggested I have it
cauterized to prevent further problems. I had my nose cauterized twenty years ago and rarely have the problem now.

Strange.. I had a nose bleed this morning.. woke up a bloody mess.. sheets pillow.. face. ugh..
Remember.. i'm not a dialysis patient.. but the caregiver..
Doc says in early morning when my med is about done with me
If my pressure spikes.. the capillaries burst.. also happens with extreme migraines..
I have to see him soon.. if my pressure is spiking. .then the med im taking is not enough mgs..
*sigh*

my oldest daughter is having her second baby and I was with her today at the doc's office
she is having nose bleeds
he asked if she sleeps with a fan on
she does
all my children sleep with fans on
he told her to stop doing that
sleep with no fan and no ceiling fan ( thank goodness we all have central air)

metoprolol has a side effet of nosebleeds? Hmm, wierd. I have been taking metoprolol since my transplant, Jan 14, 2007, and haven't had 1 nosebleed... Weird.
