Well, as the one-year anniversary of my transplant approaches, I told my mum that I would like to sneak a "thank you" ad into their local paper for dad, but without telling him (we live in different states). *sneaky grin*
Well, my mum, being the incredible organiser that she is, decided she'd go one (or several) step/s better than that. She got in touch with the Editor. On Fridays they run what I suppose you could call a local-interest piece on someone from the town, and mum suggested to the editor that they cover our story. The Editor was pleased as punch, apparently. He's coming to take photos (when I'll be in town on 31st May) and everything - interestingly enough, he had just registered as an organ donor himself.
Dad doesn't know yet - we're going to surprise him! Will keep you updated and send a scan of the article when they run it.

Sounds like a great idea, have fun with it. :clap;

It will definitely have to be a scan - it's a regional town newspaper, they wouldn't have a website. Mum put it in the mail on Friday, but Monday is a public holiday so I don't expect it to arrive here before Wednesday.
But what I will share with you guys is the CAKE my mum had made - you're gonna love this. I'll just find it and post in a min.
-
Here 'tis. I'll post more pics of the night soon too.
-
WOW :thumbup; tell your Mum I'm impressed :clap;
-
omg! that looks real, wow does she do that for a living?
-
Sorry, I didn't word my post too well. Mum didn't make it, she paid a lady to make it. But it was mum's idea. :)
-
how impressive (and gross!!)!!! What did she use for the icing? It looks so glossy!!!
-
From the taste, it was a plain old marzipan icing. She has used food colouring and covered it with a glaze.
-
One word comes to mind about the cake, IMPRESSIVE. How big was that cake or how many did it serve?
I hope your dad didn't mind all the attention and sneakiness.
-
It was actually quite large. We had a dinner table of some 10 people, and we barely made a dent in it! Mum has frozen some.

I finally received a copy of the newspaper in the mail from my mum. It is quite large, and I'm still working out how best to fit it into the scanner and put it all together, or whether to just get one of those scanning businesses to do it for me in one professional sweep! I'll post it as soon as I can.

If you send me a PM with your name and the name of the newspaper i could find an online copy perhaps.

I tried that, just in case, but it's just a small town newspaper and they don't quite have a website, beyond just their contact details.

They may be able to send you a document or a PDF file via email.

Ah! There's a thought.
