Title: Dialysis Cruises
Post by: florence on May 13, 2008, 06:39:51 PM
Hello all --

I am new to this board, but I have been lurking for a few weeks, and I think it's a great place.  I hope I'm following the rules and posting in the right place.  My husband has been on dialysis since the age of 18.

Has anyone gone on one of the dialysis cruises?  My husband and I are a young couple (late twenties) and I'm just wondering whether there are other younger people (not that I am trying to discriminate based on age!).  Could you share your experiences?  My husband is on NxStage, so I think it's also possible to go on a non dialysis cruise with the NxStage machine.  It's my understanding, however, that NxStage will only deliver supplies to certain locations.  Are Hawaiian or Alaskan cruises possible with the NxStage machine?  Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks so much.

Ann

Hi Ann, my daughter worked for Norwegian Cruise Lines on The Pride of America cruising the Hawaiin Islands.   She had a passenger with a NxStage.(I think it was NsStage)  Before passengers boarded, the delivery company brought all the supplies to the cabin.  I am not sure if they supplied the machine or if the passenger brought their own. (That could be hard to do.) My daughter said it all went well. Because she knew about dialysis, she was glad they were in her section and she understood what they were dealing with.   Talk to you social worker at the clinic and also, talk to the cruise lines.    And as I tell everyone, don't wait for tomorrow---go on that cruise now!  With some pre-planning, you should be able to make it work.   BTW, she is also a member here---AlohaBeth, so pm her if you have questions :thumbup;
