Please help. I need your prayers/positive thoughts etc please for 2 beautiful brave ladies, sisters , (donor and recipient) who had surgery on Friday but who are both very poorly with internal bleeding and are back in theatre for the second time. They are at St James Hospital in Leeds, UK and the donor is the sister in law of a very dear friend of mine. Please pray for them (or do whatever you can to send positive vibes there way). I don't know if it will help, but it can't harm them and they need every bit of help they can get at the moment.
Thanks everyone. :grouphug;

I'm sorry to hear this but I pray things will turn around and I pray the Lords healing hands on these two terrific people. If it is his will he is the one who can make this happen.

Thank you all for your prayers/good wishes, sadly the news is not good. The donor has had 2 more trips into the operating theatre today and is now in the high dependency unit with an infection on top of everything else (no idea what infection as yet) her husband is by her side (it is early evening here in the UK). Her sister remains very ill (although not as ill as she is). This is such a dreadful thing to happen, I live too far away to visit so I am relying on telephone calls and emails for news and so far none of it is good. Please saythat little extra prayer for both of them. I love you all and thank you so much for your support. xx
-
Sounds serious. I feel for all of you. I hope things take a turn for the better soon.
-
Rose, I pray that both will turn the corner soon. Please keep us updated. :grouphug;

Thank you all so much for all your good wishes. Both sisters were stable late last night, I haven't heard anything so far today so I hope no news is good news. I really, really appreciate your support :grouphug;
-
Just saw this today, sure hope they stay stabilized!!! Prayers and best wishes being sent!!
-
Prayers for both. Hope they remain stable and recover quickly.
-
I haven't been on in several days, so I had not seen this. Rose, I hope everyone remains stable or has begun to improve. They're in my thoughts and prayers until I read an update.
-
Thank you all again for your kindness. There is a little better news today, the recipient is now showing signs of improvement and has been able to visit the bathroom. The donor however remains poorly but stable, she has to have another operation today, but (because of infection and swelling) they can't stitch the wound and she will require a further op on Saturday. To think that the poor girl was trying to save her sister's life and has been put through so much seems unfair. But as you all know- no one said life would be fair. Thanks again for the support, you guys are great :grouphug;
-
I hope they both recover quickly, I know St James`s Renal unit well, and I know the staff will care for them.
-
Yikes, I'm so sorry to hear the donor is running into problems.
The fact is, I never hear about "donor" problems after surgery so this is an awakening.
My kidney transplant doctors always downplay any complications for donors. But that is THE biggest worry I have
regarding a loved one donating a kidney to me.Do you have any more information on this? What exactly went
amiss?
-
Sunny, I'm afraid I don't know exactly what went wrong, it started with unbearable pain on waking from the op and the following day that was found to be internal bleeding, a 2nd operation was carried out involving a cut under the ribs (the first had been keyhole) and gauze was put in to try to stem the bleeding. The next day (or the one after that, I'm losing track now) it was removed and infection and odema was found so the wound is now open to enable draining and healing. She was back in surgery yesterday to have it all cleaned and has to go again on Monday, the wound is still open. I am no expert on this and neither is my friend (the sister in law of the patient) but she says the infection is something connected with this type of operation but she couldn't remember the name (it is not MRSA, C Diff etc). It is a week today since the initial operation and the poor girl still has an open wound and is attached to numerous tubes and bags. On a positive note the recipient is now doing better and may be hone soon although she did have to go back into surgery too.
Thanks for everyone's good wishes, I hope that by this time next week they will both be home. Spare a thought for their father - to have 2 daughters in hospital at the same time and one so poorly must be a nightmare, but at least now it looks as if they are both going to survive, at one point that seemed in doubt.
-
Checking up on the sisters and yes.. that father must be going insane right now.
More prayers being sent across the pond :grouphug;
-
Hello, just to up date you all - both girls are still in hospital, they have been told that what has happened to them is so rare that it will be reported in the Medical Journal - no consollation to them, but a relief for anyone else thinking of donating or due to receive. They are slowly improving but still having the occasional setback. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts, hopefully by the weekend all ops will be completed and they will be able to think about coming home, it has been a long haul for them all.
Thank you all for your kind words, I have copied them to their families and it has helped them to know people care. :grouphug;
I hope to be able to tell you that they are home next week.
-
I do hope things are back to normal soon.
-
Still keeping everyone in my prayers. How are you doing Rose? And your Dad? :grouphug;
-
Just found this thread...sending my prayers and positive vibes!

Still keeping everyone in my prayers. How are you doing Rose? And your Dad? :grouphug;
I'm well ,thanks for asking Paris. Dad has his ups and downs, has to see the vascular surgeon tomorrow (Thursday) which is always scary - not sure if you'll remember but originally they said he'd have to have his leg amputated, managed to save it with a bypass but that has now failed. Fingers crossed and prayers for a good result, he's had enough to cope with and so has Mum. Hope you are OK and Beth is well and having fun. Bet you miss her, sending you a special hug :cuddle; and bunny :bunny: to keep you company xx
-
Unfortunately, 2 weeks after the operations, both girls remain poorly - the donor still has an infection and her wound can't be stitched (she still says she would do it all over again to give her sister a better life), the recipient has fluid around her new kidney and is in pain. But what has happened is all VERY rare and I would not want it to put anyone off donating a kidney, nor receiving one. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts. Thanks.
-
:-\ I am so sorry to hear this - it's so sad and I pray things get better.
Thank you for the update.
-
Rose, thanks for the update; so sorry to hear that there has been so little improvement. Nevertheless, I will keep them in my thoughts and continue to hope that things get better. :cuddle; :grouphug;
-
Very sorry about this.
I still hold out hope for them both and I am wishing all of you the best.
-
Hi everyone, at last I have some better news. :2thumbsup; The donor sister has now had her wound stitched (17 days after the initial operation) and is hoping to come home soon. Recipient sister has been allowed home for a day and is now back in hospital making progress. It will be a long road for both of them but hopefully they are on the road to recovery now. Thank you all for your support and good wishes you are fantastic people. :grouphug;
-
:2thumbsup; Thank GOD!
-
Absolutely!!
-
It's so nice to hear some better news Rose. The sisters are still in my thoughts and hopefully they'll both be home sooner rather than later.
-
Thanks for the update, Rose. So glad to hear that things are finally getting better.
-

-
I just found this thread, I read it with a bit of dread...I am so glad they are okay! ;D
-
I hope the girls are recovering well :grouphug;
-
Thanks Karol, both are home now and the recipient sister is up and about and feeling much better, unfortunately her sister is still in pain and not feeling good...she has been told this is to be expected but it is over a month now and she had hoped to be rid of the pain. She sees the consultant in about 10 days so hopefully she will be a lot better. Knowing it has been successful for her sister (at last) has made it worthwhile and helped lift her spirits somewhat. She still seems to have a hill toclimb, but she will make it. Thank you for asking, I will tell them. xx
-
OMG Rose... I am speechless at what these two sisters have been through... my prayers are late in the comiong , but none the less they will be coming.
Thinking of you and yours
Kim :grouphug;
