I woke up with a fever last Friday morning of 103 and a blood pressure of 86/47 at 7:50 AM. My husband called our dialysis nurse and she said to call our OB at Duke and go to the emergency room. The OB nurse on call put us on hold for 7 minutes. :rant; My husband hung up before they got back with us and I took 1500 mg of Tylenol and we got in the car and drove to Duke's Emergency Department. At the emergency department my fever had gone down to 101 (about 45 minutes after the Tylenol.) They wheeled me up to the 5th floor birthing center where I was placed in a Triage room at 9:00 AM and given an NST and an IV. I later learned that my body was close to going into septic shock possibly from an infection caused by the new dialsis catheter I got exchanged on Tuesday. The babies heart rate was sustained at over 175 beats per minute. The OB doctor on call decided to section me immediately and I was taken to the operating room. They told my husband to not join me because they were going to use general anesthesia. They decided to use a spinal block instead at the last minute. A nurse ran to get my husband who was not dressed for the OR. He got ready as quick as possible while I was waiting with my abdomen cut open. At 10:36 the baby was pulled out and began to cry before they could get her to the warmer table. We were so happy! :yahoo; My husband stayed with the baby for a few minutes while they took the placenta out. He came back to me and the doctor spent about 20 minutes sewing and stapling me back together. I spent the rest of the day receiving antibiotics and antivirals while they took blood and put it in 6 Bac-T bottles to grow cultures.
I am home finally and will post more later. Pictures at picasaweb.google.com/jdhartzog

Wow! How wonderful for you! It's so inspiring to hear about a successful birth in the ESRD community.
My husband and I have always wanted to have children. Now that I've had the transplant, I hope we can have a happy ending like you!

-
No new posts from her but she's been updating her photos and she and the baby look great - http://picasaweb.google.com/jdhartzog
Photo below was taken last week I think.

WOW!!! That is so spectacular!! It is so encouraging to me too. I am young and last year when I was diagnosed with ESRD the thought of having kids was out of the question. But you are proof positive that it can happen!! Your daughter is a miracle. I know you will treasure her forever. God bless your family!! :cheer:

Sorry it's been so long since I posted - I started back to work and that's keeping me busy during my 3 hour treatments. :)
Kaylynn is doing GREAT! She is just about 15 lbs now, eating a lot of solid foods, sleeping through the night (11 hours! Yay!! :bandance;) giggling, rolling, playing and, as of tonight, creeping around on her tummy. She has her Daddy wrapped around her little tiny finger and knows just how to get him to feel sorry for her and pick her up without shedding a single tear. ;D Mommy doesnt (always) fall for those tricks! lol. Latest pics are at picasaweb.google.com/jdhartzog.
In dialysis news, I've been on NxStage for a full year now and I still love it. There are days when I wish we could have a "normal" night several nights in a row, but it's still SO much better than in center. (Those machines give me headaches and I have to take a nap after even going in everyday.) Our routine is that we set up the machine before or right after dinner, then get Kaylynn put to bed for the night (around 7 or 7:30pm) then start my treatment. Some nights when we're sluggish we might not get on til 8 or 9 though.
I had a revision surgery on my fistula at the end of August and the surgeon put a custom modified (during the surgery!) illiac artery stent in my arm because the vessel was so large - large but squiggly (the fistula gram looked like a bunch of snakes!). Now it's nice and straight and healed from the surgery. I start learning to stick the thing tomorrow! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I've stuck my arterial needle before and am pretty comfortable with that but the venus was harder and I never was able to get it in myself. Now I have to learn how to stick throught the stent. I haven't been able to get a clear answer on whether or not I will be allowed to have button holes with this modification so for now I will have to use the ladder tecnique. :-p
And that's about all that's going on lately. :) Hope everyone else is doing well as can be expected too!
Jenn, Kevin and Kaylynn :)

They both look great!
-
This is so lovely. Makes me feel all warm! Thanks for updating us, Okarol!
-
Congratulation.
-
Okarol, :thx; Thanks for posting an update! I always forget. :)
We are all doing great! Kaylynn is 19 lbs, eating "big girl" table foods, crawling and starting to show some interest in walking! She is such a wonderful baby. :)
Dialysis wise, things are going great. I am successfully self-canulating my revised fistula. When my first permacath came out because of infection, they left the infected cuff in, so I was on antibiotics 5 or 6 times between September and January for recurrent Staph infections. Finally one of my dialysis docs decided the cuff was still in there and was the source of the infection. SO I had to have it cut out. It is MUCH better now. :)
-
It is great hearing about our IHD baby, Kaylynn. She is doing so well! And happy that the infection thing got sorted out for you. You are doing amazingly well. Please continue to keep us updated. Our caring thoughts and prayers are with you both all the way. :grouphug;
