What do you all turn to when you get a sweet tooth? I really want to start watching my sweets (starting tomorrow) and I need some ideas that are CKD friendly. I'm pre-dialysis and have not been placed on any strict food restrictions or fluid restrictions. I need something that will really do the trick. I have never had a strong sweet tooth until recently. Now, I always crave something sweet after lunch or dinner. HELP!

I love fudge pops, they are chocolate and only 40 calories!

I have to agree with flip. Cutting out chocolate it tough. Popsicles and jellybeans all the way... :thumbup;

Never underestimate the power of a bowl of fruit with a tiny little bit of melted chocolate or chocolate syrup drizzled over the top. Add a bit of Reddi-Whip, and it turns a relatively healthy snack into something that will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth.
If you must have something sweet - think fruit pie, apple dumplings, and sugar cookies - all relatively renal friendly. You can buy cans of pie filling to keep on hand - heat and top with Reddi-Whip for a yummy dessert. Crumble some graham crackers under or in it for a bit of crunch.
Del Monte makes something called a Fruit Chiller - it's a fruit sorbet that comes in those little individual sized plastic cups, just like the lunch packs of pears and applesauce. You stick it in the freezer overnight, and it tastes like fruit flavored ice cream. It's a bit high in sugar, but we're talking about killing a sweet tooth craving here, not dieting.
I got the same cravings right before I started dialysis. Nothing savory or salty tasted good when the toxin level started building up, and all I wanted was sweets.

Ever tried grilled fruit (choose carefully for potassium levels obviously) with a little bit of warmed caramel sauce?

My nutritionist said I can have a cup of blueberries for a mid afternoon snack, so I microwave them for about 20 seconds to make them burst (taste like blueberry pie ) and then I can add 2 TBSP of Lite Cool Whip on top. It's yummy and low in fat. At night for dessert I but the 60 calorie Pudding Snacks by Jello (Mint chocolate Fudge and Dark Chocolate and Caramel are great) and again, top it with 2 TBSP of Lite Cool Whip - makes me feel like I am eating something special. I also like the Healthy Choice frozen fudge bars.

Skinny Cow Icre Cream Sandwhiches are da bomb! If you're watching calories they are a great treat. Not so sure how much phos. ???

freeze cool whip and scoop it out like ice cream and place in a glass with A&W root beer or diet A&W rootbeer
it's an almost root beer float ----- blend in blender if you want a frostie and serve in cold mug :P

My husband is doing a low-carb diet, and came upon a great dessert that was good for both our diets. Berry parfaits.
He would pour some heavy cream and splenda over some berries, and I would use cool-whip. Either way, it's absolutely wonderful!!
