Hello friends,
As of Wednesday Dustin was admitted to the hospital in ICU. He had gotten up to take some headache meds and yelled out to his girlfriend. By the time Jasmine had gotten into the bathroom Dustin was drooling, eyes crossed and started having a seizure. Gary (Dustin's dad and my hubby) had just gotten home from going to see the surgeon. Gary called 911 and it took 4 grown men to get Dustin on a stretcher cause he became very combative. They took him to our local hospital and sent him on to Indianapolis Community East. Dustin had a seizure Wed evening while eating supper, talk about a horrible experience. I was talkin to him and his hand started shakin he said "Mom Im havin a seizure. Oh it was terrible I ran out and had all the ICU nurses in their. They sedated him with Adavan. I never ever want to see that again the sound was horrid he made. Once he came around he cried and cried. He thought he was dying. They are not sure what caused the seizures I myself am not a DR but beleive his blood pressure was like 212/100 and something. I kid you not, his dialysis tech came to see him and said its been high like that for months. Me being the persistent mom I am talked to his kidney Dr about how I really think this is what caused his migranes that might have triggered a seizure. This is not the worst of it. Thursday his potassium was really high and they gave him something to drink Dustin had non stop vomiting to where he was throwing up blood. He had to have a scope put down his stomach where we learned he has Acute ulcers in the esophagus and alil in the top of the stomach along with a heinal hernia (sorry for the mis spelled word.).
They started Dustin on a seizure med by IV Wed evening and praise God he has not had any more.
I am totally exhausted. I was just glad Jasmine was here when Dustin had the seizure otherwise he would have laid on the bathroom floor until Gary got home.
We came home for the 1st time tonight since Dusitn is in a regular room and we will be back in the am.
Sorry so long but I wanted you all to know. Keep us in your prayers please. Oh and thank God this week I am off for spring break from school.

Lori, :grouphug; I am so sorry that Dustin is having so many problems. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers :cuddle;

Lori, I know how terrifying it is to watch your child have a seizure. I took care of my epileptic daughter for two years before she got on good meds. I never got used to it, even after two years. The sound is haunting.
It's very normal for him to be extremely emotional when coming out of a seizure.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
-
Oh I am so sorry to hear out your son..
Prayers for you and your family :grouphug;

:grouphug;
Hope you get some answers soon.

I wish him a speedy recovery.
Sounds like his blood pressure to me. I have seizures caused from HBP, they call them "Seizures induced by HBP" because that's the only time I have them.
:big hug:
-
Sorry to hear all of this. Angela is right HBP will cause some people to have seizures.
Pray they get things under control soon.

Hello Friends,
Thank you all for replying. Dustin has a good chance of getting to come home today!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The blood pressure is finally down! Sad to think it had to go on for this long before the situation was actually taken care of!!!!! Dustin seems to be resting better. Actually all he does is sleep right now. I talked to him on the phone this am and he said he prayed last night. Can't tell you the last time he did that. I think this may have been a wake up call for him to really take better care of himself too.
Thanks again to all of you!!!! I love you all!!!!!!!!!!!

That's great news! :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;

Great news! :yahoo;
You know, if there is one thing I've learned from ESRD it's that "sleeping" and "getting sleep/rest" are two totally different things! I "sleep" 8+ hrs every night and feel horrible and "unrested" every morning!
I hope he really is getting good sleep/rest. He needs a break! We all need a break!

Signing in on this thread late (as usual these days with my limited Internet access), but I am glad to hear of Dustin's improvement. My caring thoughts and prayers are with him for his full return to good health.

Lori...let's hope this trip provides you and Dustin all the answers you want about his conditions and then you can go about working on those. Not knowing what's going on just sucks, so we're all pulling for you both.
