Title: Parathyroid Surgery
Post by: ILOVEFLUID on March 23, 2008, 10:42:45 PM
I have just learned that I have to have my Parathyroid glands removed in a couple of months.  Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect before during and after the surgery.  I would like to put my mind at ease.

Thanks,
ILOVEFLUID

I love fluid and celebrated Easter drinking 8 ounces of Pepsi -----only I had 5 of them

My doc told me the very same thing last Monday.
I don't know about you but I am afraid
I have a long history with needles
All I've heard is I will have one or two little scars on my neck
and I will feel better ( been told that before)
and no more sensipar
You go first and then tell me all about it
I will be learning along with you
but I tend to put things off

ILF and Twirl I'll be thinking of you soon.

It seems I have staved off the surgery for the time being thanks to being put on Senspiar... it has lowered my PTH already after a week on it, and the next monthly bloods will be very interesting.

Having said that I was actually not that scared or worried about the surgery which is supposed to be pretty routine and you come up pretty quick and well from it. Of course nobody wants to go under the knife so I'm happy the Senspiar is aparently working well to keep me away from that for now.. and hopefully a transplant will come along soon that will fix me up for a few years yet.

Fingers crossed for you ILF and Twirl.

Thank you for everyones well wishes.   I have never even heard of Sensipar and medication was never offered as an option for me.  I am not too worried about the surgery, in fact, I am sort of looking forward to it.   If it at all relieves my depression and fatigue, it will be a blessing.

Parathyroid surgery helped my depression just incredibly! The fatigue not so much. But hopefully it will do it all for you. Check out those threads for very complete descriptions of the operation, from people who had quite different experiences.

That sucks ILOVEFLUID. I always dread an upcoming surgery, I'm somewhat of a scardy cat as it were. One of my wives close friends at work just had the surgery and for some reason they had to go back in and fix something. She couldn't talk for a couple weeks and even now after 2 months she has a raspy smokers voice. They have me on Calcitriol (generic Rocaltrol) to keep my PTH level down. So far so good. You'll get through it and best of luck!!!  :2thumbsup;
