One of the hosts of a health broadcast on a Christian radio station in my island had as a topic on Tuesday night "Dialysis". He invited our nephrologist, the nurse in charge of the unit and guess who! Yours truly! I had forgotten because I thought he was to check back with me. Then a few minutes before the broadcast was due to start, I got a phonecall from the nurse saying she hoped I was on my way. Well, I reached in record time, before the broadcast was to start.
It went extremely well, and of course I told them about the website - I Hate Dialysis. com - where I received much help and where there is a caring community. So the site got radio mention, Epoman! [though only in our islands]
One thing that the doctor said that was eyeopening, that was that he was seeing too many people with ESRD who were attending their physicians quite regularly. In fact, his last statement was directed to physicians. He also advised anyone with diabetes and/or hypertension to make sure that their doctors check, not only their blood, but their urine for albumin, regularly.
