My transplant center gave me an incredibly helpful book called Medicare Coverage of Kidney Dialysis and Kidney Transplant Services. It covers the basics of Medicare, how Medicare helps pay for kidney dialysis and transplants and where to get help. It's 55 pages long, has a ton of information, and is very helpful. It cleared so much up for me. If you would like to get a copy (publication #10128), here is the phone number and address:
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
7500 Security Boulevard
Baltimore, Maryland 21244-1850
1-800-633-4227
TTY: 1-877-486-2048

FYI... I called the number and went thru the automated response system. Then I got passed into the queue to order the publication. The "wait time"? FIFTEEN MINUTES!
I'll try again later. Unfortunately I gotta run to an appointment. Jeeze! I figured this would be a "no brainer". I shoulda thunk... it's the Federal Gov't and expected that!
Nonetheless, thanks much for passing along this information. If, and when, I get it, it should prove helpful!

I got mine from my social worker at my transplant center, so if you have an SW, ask them. They would probably have one for you.

The booklet is available online - this is the most recent revision dated September 2007 www.medicare.gov/publications/pubs/pdf/10128.pdf
It's a 56 page PDF file, so you can view it online or print it out.
