Marvin has ONE more in-center treatment to go.....YIPPPPEEEE !! He's been on IV antibiotics for six weeks, and he had to go back in-center to get them (long story -- don't even get me started again -- I've just now gotten over being mad about the whole situation). Anyway, he had a treatment today, and he has one on Tuesday. After that, we're back to home hemo. We can hardly wait.
I'm not bashing in-center hemo (because Marvin did that for 12 1/2 years). This works best for some people, but Marvin LOVED having his treatments at home. When the doctors told him he'd have to go back in-center for six weeks, his eyes filled up. But, we made it through! I will have to say that the nurses and techs at his old clinic (where's he's been again for the last six weeks) were wonderful to him and to me. They let me continue to cannulate him for each treatment and then pull his needles at the end. Instead of weighing him and TELLING him how much they were going to pull off, they let him set his dry weight and make adjustments as he saw fit at each treatment. He even set his blood flow rate (that BIG machine at the clinic pulls so hard on him, and he can only tolerate about 350 BFR max -- at home, it's easier on him, and he runs at 450).
I've got to go now...I've got to get in his home "clinic" (used to be a bedroom) and disinfect it really good. We're so excited -- come on, Tuesday, get here quick!!!

:yahoo; i'm so glad. there is one thing however that we all need to remember. always stand up for yourself. any time a tech, doctor or nurse sets how much is to be taken off and you don't agree SPEAK UP. it's your life, your treatment and YOUR CHOICE! i always say how much is coming off, i know my body and i know how much i can handle, i refuse to cramp or feel crappy for anyone!

Yeah! :yahoo; Yippeee! :bandance; Hooray! :bandance; :bandance; :bandance; He's going to take tomorrow off, and Thursday, we're back to home hemo! We made it! I never thought I would be looking forward to a dialysis treatment for Marvin, but we're both so excited that Thursday we'll be doing a treatment at home. Marvin won't wear the blue dress and ruby red slippers, but he sure is saying, "There's no place like home! There's no place like home!"

We're BBBBAAAACCCKKKK -- on home hemo, that is!
Marvin finished up his antibiotic treatment at the clinic (6 long weeks) on Tuesday of this week, and today was his first day back on home hemo. I came home from school, and he had his NxStage machine set up, ready, and waiting. I washed my hands and slid the needles right in! (I was nervous about the needles again -- even though I've been cannulating him the whole time in-center. I didn't want to have any trouble or have to "dig" on his first day back at home.) It was a perfect stick, and he's been on and running for about 45 minutes -- no alarms, everything looks great. Even though we hadn't set up a machine or initiated a treatment in six weeks, it was just like riding a bicycle -- you never forget (and once you start it again, it all comes back to you). Those of you who pray, thank the Man Above for a good treatment today for my Marvin.
