I stuck my self tonight with one needle. I was kidding with the tech and asked if I could do the second needle. She handed it to me, gloved my hand and I did it! Not very well, but got it into the graft and then had her help me! Not as scary as I thought it would be. Going to try again next time.

I know it may seem small but it is a great achievement. Every little step gets you closer to home haemo. Well done :-*

:thumbup; Good for you kitkatz. The first time is the scariest, now it should get easier everytime. Congratulations. :clap;
-
Yep it's easier than you think, it's a lot of mind over matter, I was scared shitless at the start. But I knew that If i did it myself i would be more in control and I think it actually easier and less painful when you do it yourself.

it's very empowering is'nt it, more power to those who can do it, i only did it once, then got very lazy, but my excuse is that the fistula zig zags all the way up to the shoulder blade.

And tonight they tell me I can't stick myself. If I am willing to learn why the hell not?

What? I don't get it! They let you one day but not the next. Crazy :boxing;

Strange! I was told that they would teach me to do it all, if I wanted, including setting up the machine, etc. If, I asked the doctor, he would order it. I'm proud of you for trying. I'm not quite ready for that yet. I used to give my own epo shots, and I've stopped using the numbing shots, but not yet ready to stick my own needles. I'm sure it would be just like when I first started giving my epo shots. After the first few times, it was a piece of cake.

Hold to your guns, Kit! If you want to do this (and I think it's wonderful that you do), push them. Insist. Demand. Threaten. Show them the big stick, girl!
-
Absolutely, Kit!!! Show them who is the boss here, and it ain't them!!!!
:boxing; :boxing; :boxing;

Here's a video about the benefit of self-cannulation from Fistula First: Cannulation of the Arteriovenous Fistula http://www.fistulafirst.org/videos/cannulation_chapter7.php

Fantastic Kit! I am inspired!
Did you use a tourniquet?
What did they cite as the reason for not permitting you to stick yourself? policy, your ability to do it or what?
-
:clap; for you kit.
This I could NEVER do . Had to have fistula in RIGHT arm and I am so right handed that I wonder if the right side of brain even functions. :lol;
