Update:
Just a quick note to let you know that I have bad news. Transplant has been cancelled.
My insurance does not cover Covenant in Lubbock. If my primary insurance doesn't cover it, then neither will Medicare (I was under the impression that Medicare WOULD cover it if my primary didn't). Now we will have to go through Baylor because I am already listed with them. My insurance person is going to stay on Baylor and so are Joyce and I so we can move the process along quickly. We are hoping that they will accept the tests that Covenant did, and do whatever other tests they need to do maybe it will be a little quicker.
I just got the call!!! I have to be there on the 25th with Joyce, my donor, so they can do a final crossmatch. We will both be admitted on the 26th in the morning and I will dialyse for the last time (praise God!!!)... then transplant on the 27th!!!
:yahoo; I am sooooo excited! :yahoo;

Oh how awful, that's a disgrace and I'm so upset for you. :rant;
I hope you can get this sorted quickly - sending love & good vibes your way. :grouphug;
-
That stinks, hope it goes quickly and smoothly over at Baylor :grouphug;
-
OOOOO. That stinks. That just plain out right stinks. Donnia, I hope it goes well, and QUICKLY at Baylor. Get Kit's stick
so you can start :boxing; :boxing; if need be!!!!
WHY oh WHY do they do this????? :banghead; :banghead;
-
Why would they have let you go through the nuisance of getting listed and tested at Covenant if they weren't covered?? What a pain!! :banghead;
I'm so sorry this has happened, I know how disappointed you are (I had one postponed by two months due to health issues several years ago). Good thoughts are going your way, and :boxing; to Baylor to get things moving quickly!

That's my thoughts too Katie.
How horrible for them to give you a date, shouldn't they check the insurance coverage first ?
They build you up so they can knock you down ? They shouldn't put you through that, and they wouldn't need to if they found out about the insurance first. :banghead;
-
>:( donnia, Who paid for all the testing that has been done so far? Don't insurance companies frost your butt. :banghead; How could they let you get so far into testing and give you a date and then back out. I would be lived :boxing;. I'm so sorry and I hope things get back on track fast. Keep us posted. :cuddle;
-
Thanks everyone. All the testing was covered by grants. I don't know why they didn't figure out the insurance business out sooner. I knew my insurance didn't cover it, but the lady at Covenant told me that Medicare would cover it (I'm new to all this Medicare stuff, it just started on December 1st). So.... I thought Medicare would cover what my insurance wouldn't. What a great surprise. Oh well... I am going to just assume it is for the best. My 2 best friends live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and they will be helping me out. It is also closer for my donor. (3 hour drive -vs- 7 hour drive). I have had surgery at Baylor, and I was very impressed with them. I will keep yall updated. :grouphug;
-
I'm sorry to here about the cancellation. I sure hope this is only a temporary set back. :grouphug;
-
Sorry about your cancellation, hope it gets back on the schedule soon!
-
This Sucks. I hope they get it all sorted out or else :boxing;
-
So now you just have to light a fire under Baylor's butt! Just think, this will happen this year! You will get your kidney and be done with dialysis hopefully for a long, long, long, long, long time. I'm praying for you and your donor.
Check with the San Antonio hospitals. You never know!!!! I'll come visit you!!!!!!!!
:cuddle;
-
I am so sorry donnia - hopefully this is a minor set back and things will get rescheduled soon.
The whole insurance thing is confusing. Each hospital told us different things and they were just as confused as we were.
It's my understanding that your private policy is the primary insurance for 3 years (I THINK that's right) and Medicare is secondary. Then it switches, so your primary becomes secondary, and you can get your transplant wherever Medicare allows.
If that is incorrect, someone please let me know.
Hugs to you donnia :cuddle;

That's the way it worked for us, too, okarol!
-
Well...rat poo! That is not good news for you all. I hope the hospital you are with can hurry up.

This stinks! I hope you get rescheduled very soon!

I thought this about private insurance and Medicare as well. I thought that as soon as you got a transplant Medicare becomes primary. I was wrong, and did not find out the truth until after my transplant. There are about three criteria they check, and if any of them are met, then your private insurance continues to be primary for the full 30 month coordination period. Mine is because my husband's employer has over 300 employees. I'm sorry, I can't remember the other two reasons, but it's something to be aware of and know which side you're going to fall onto when the transplant happens.
-
Is there a way to find out the "three criteria"? :thx;
-
Medicare becomes primary and will pay after 30 months (2 1/2 years). :thumbdown;
-
I'm sorry to hear this. Let's hope this gets resolved soon and they call with another date.
-
How are you doing, Donnia? You're still in my thoughts...
-
:yahoo;
Great news!!!!! I know you are so excited! I will be praying for you both!!!
Lori/Indiana :2thumbsup;
-
kelly, I am doing ok. Baylor is going to accept Covenants tests, and do some more tests on my donor. Hopefully they won't be too long since my donor had done so much at Covenant.
-
I am so sorry to hear it has been cancelled. I didnt know this before I posted yday. I will keep praying for you!!!

I guess you saw my bad news? Stupid of me to think I was going to cruise through this without any hiccups! :banghead;
We're all in this together even though we're all so far apart! :cuddle;
