Selfless Employee Donates Kidney to His Boss
Family News in Focus
"I just felt like God said, ‘This is what you need to do.’ ”
A Texas man is making headlines for all the right reasons.
When Joshua Phipps, 33, learned his boss, Charlie Ward, needed a kidney, he volunteered one of his — because it was the right thing to do, he said.
Phipps was one of four employees who stepped up to donate a kidney, and he was the best match.
“Some gifts are so huge that there really is no way to adequately show appreciation," Ward said. "There certainly is no way to compensate or to equal that; you just have to know a guy like Josh, and he knows what he did for me is giving him so much satisfaction to see me healthier and getting my life back.”
As far as Phipps is concerned, it was the natural choice.
“It really wasn’t an issue, and there was nothing to think about," he said. "It was really that straightforward. I just felt like God said, ‘This is what you need to do.’ ”
H.B. London, vice president of pastoral ministries at Focus on the Family, said it’s rare to see such selflessness.
“It reflects what’s good about humankind," he said. "When there’s someone in need, there’s always someone that steps in the gap to help them.”
