Title: Dialyser Clearance/KtV
Post by: cris on January 02, 2008, 09:02:06 PM
My Mom's station cannot give us her dialyser clearance info since they stopped buying the thing, which should give the dialyser clearance reading(?). All their units are not equipped with these things, as the they say, these are expensive. I am not sure if this is the dialysate(?) but I know this controls the setting of the dialyzer clearance. In abscence of this, is there an immediate danger? I cannot compute for her Kt/V without this. Inputs please.
Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure what information they are giving you but I know we do KT/V's on a monthly basis by drawing blood work for BUN pre-dialysis and then a Post BUN after dialysis is completed prior to removing patients from the machines. They are sent to the lab who utilizes specific formulas based on your EDW to determine if you are getting adequate clearances. The dialysis machine itself can not provide this information as it is done from specific blood work. This has to be done at a time when you are getting your ordered flow rate, along with completing your entire treatment time (not getting off to go to the bathroom or with the machine stopping here or there do to clotting or other issues). The norm depending on your lab is generally to be above 1.4
