Hi Friends,
Hope everyone is having a good day. Dustin came home earlier this week and a older man was next to him in "Permacath Alley". Thats what they call it. Well this older gentleman God Bless him is not only on dialysis but is undergoing chemo. He yells the whole time during dialysis. Well Dustin got talking to him and even held this mans hand for quite sometime. Dustin told him to hang in their and that he loves him. This poor fella did not want to let go of Dustin. Dustin said anyone that has sat in the chair this man is in always dies. Dustin cried when he came home. I myself can cry over pretty much anything.
Well......... when Dustin went Thursday this man would not leave him alone. I guess he is constantly touching Dustin and yeliing. Poor man I am sure with chemo he is just sooooo sick. Well Dustin asked to be moved. Went in today and they had moved Dustin like one down from this man. Dustin had all he could take and got off the machine early. He said mom its bad enough being their 4 hours but I cant take him yelling for 4 hours. I told Dustin to try earplugs., or a cd player with earphones. Any suggestions anyone????

Get the noise blocking headphones available at Target or Walmart. My sister bought me some from a truck stop and boy do they block the noise at dialysis.
-
Thanks Kit! And by the way how are ya feeling???
-
You think the nurses would recommend some benadryl for the old guy.
-
I have tears in my eyes reading this. God Bless Dustin! People suffer so much. Chemo and dialysis.
-
Justin thanks for trying to help this man. :cuddle; I just can't imagine.
-
i usually put the earphones on turn up the music on the mp3, throw the chair back and pull the baseball cap, done over the eyes and zone out.
justin can try and ask the nurses to move him to the opposite end of the unit to the old guy.
good luck with it,hope justin finds a good resolutin to it. :thumbup;

It would do no good to change shifts cuz he might encounter that on another shift so i would definetly try the sound proof headphones as Karol recommended :2thumbsup;
-
I agree, benadryl would so help the poor gentleman.
As for Dustin, definitely, headphones first. THEN try to get another shift, if not
a couple of chairs away from the poor gentleman, out of his sight. I feel for
both of them. Dusting is such a sweetheart to want to reach out, but heck,
he's a paitent too, darn it!

Kitkatz idea for sound proof earphones sound like a pure winner! I sit there thinking how noisy the place is and her idea never occured to me. Kit, you gave a couple of places where they are available. I am familiar with the Bose product but its very expensive./bobt

Your son sounds like a kind and loving young man.
-
psp or nintendo ds with headphones, they're great for passing the time and blockign everyone else out.
-
I tell ya, I can't get over the compassion your son showed the other patient. Wow!
