-
Hi Misschell78,
I hope you saw this recent news story http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=5994.0 -
Are you on PD or hemo? Best wishes to you!
:cuddle;
-
no i didnt see it but i will check it out...i'm on hemo....in january i will be put in the hospital so the baby can be monitered during dialysis....of course my in center doc doesnt like the idea. i think b/c he will now longer be getting paid...gotta love the docs
-
How far along are you?
-
i am 17 weeks and 2 days....that's a little over 4 months..... :yahoo;
-
How the heck did I miss this thread? Oh boy, I have been in your position before misschell purely due to lack of knowledge or lack of doctors listening. That will never happen again for me. I would never allow that to happen again. My pregnancy ended in my 5th month due to miscarriage and being unwilling to believe it was anything but early menopause setting in. My health has defiantly changed since that time. As my health is now I couldn't chase after a 3 year old. Had you thought anything about your health issues or the ability to chase after a child down the road? I wish you best of luck and hope all goes well.
-
i'll be 30 when my little boy gets here.....if i can be pregnant, go to dialysis and be a full time college student i can chase a kid when he's three :thumbup;
-
I reckon you can- best of luck to you- and welcome to IHD- lots of nice people here too- you should fit right in!
-
Pregnancy is a wonderful thing.... I hope you have the best doctors taking care of you and your little one in waiting. I had both of my children after my first transplant, but I got pregnant 6 months after the transplant instead of 2 yrs after like I was supposed too. (Condems really aren't a sure thing...)
I was never pregnant on dialysis, but if I was, I would try to carry full term as you are. I hope nothing but the best outcome for you. I had to chase my son and daughter around when I went back on dialysis and they were 3 and 2 yrs old... boy, was that ever exhausting. Now I am a single mom (basically was anyways even when their dad lived with us) and even though I have a transplant again, I still get tired out easily, and so on... it's alot of work even for a healthy mom, the good thing is though, you know there is alot of hard work ahead, but your determined to make it work. You are very brave.
:grouphug;
-
thank you for your well wishes!! how is the transpant working for u...i see u matched 6 out of 6 :yahoo;

Motherhood is a beautiful thing. :cuddle;
I was lucky enough to have my children before dialysis. Although due to my kidney problems my daughter was born at 32 weeks. It's a hard road at any time. I wish you luck with your pregnancy and I hope it all works out well for you.
-
I'm not pregnant I just look as though I am :rofl;
-
The four things to keep in mind when you are pregnant and on dialysis are: 1) the increased risk for abnormalities in the fetus, especially in the nervous system; 2) the increased risk of health problems for the mother because of the stress of pregnancy in the presence of renal failure; 3) the difficulty of the mother having enough energy to take care of the child, if not right now then in the future; 4) the likelihood that the child may become motherless before reaching the age of majority, given the low life expectancy of dialysis patients. From the tone of the posts, however, I assume that Misschell is determined to go ahead and have the child, so I can only wish her good luck.
-
I've never been on dialysis, but when I got married in 1998 my neph at that time said it should be fine to get pregnant I didn't want to get pregnant that early into my marriage, so we waited. Plus, my husband has three grown children from his first marriage. So after a couple of years I asked again and my neph said "absolutely not". Too much risk to myself and the baby. Why put the address stress on my kidneys. He said that a pregnancy could throw me into dialysis.
Being that I'm not now, nor have I ever been pregnant or a mother, I agree it looks to be very difficult and very rewarding!!! Nothing but best wishes to you and the new baby! :)

-
:yahoo; that's what i need someone who is positive!!! He always grants us the desires of our hearts!
-
Best Wishes to you and your little one. There have been a lot of sucessful high risk pregnancies. :grouphug;
-
If you are already pregnant then there is nothing I would have you do but dialyze as much as you can and take care of you and your baby. I would never recommend someone on dialysis get pregnant, but I don't believe abortion is the answer. Best of luck to you both and keep us posted on your progress
-
Good luck to you. I hope and pray the baby and you are as healthy as possible :thumbup;
-
Hi,
I am not the patient, my husband Les is- but I wanted
to offer my prayers and best wishes to you and the
little angel, that all will be well :angel;
You sound like a very positive and strong young woman-
I am sure this will help you immensely

babies are wonderful! i had 4. all high risk pregnancies because of my asthma (the kidney thing didn't start until recently, now it's just grandchildren i chase) even though there is nothing specifically said about it in the movie pregnancy with kidney failure is what steel magnolias is about. the story was written by a brother in memory of his sister. you already know it isn't going to be easy, but it sure will be worth it!!!!! we're all pulling for you. glad to have you aboard.
-
Good luck I hope everything works out for the best. When is your due date? If your 17weeks then you must be close to the half way mark. :grouphug;
-
Wishing you all the best with this pregnancy, I'm happy to hear things are going so well. :cuddle;
Many people have different opinions on the matter, just remember that its your body and your life and you do whats right for you.
Sending positive thoughts your way.

Good luck with your pregnancy and remember to take care of yourself. I can honestly say that I would do anything to keep my son healthy and there is something to be said about a mother's love....good luck!

I think I read in one of your messages that your Dr is putting you in the hospital in January until your baby makes his / her arrival. Did I read that right? If so, will you have internet access so you can keep us updated on your, and your baby's, progress?
-
yep i will be held hostage at baylor until daniel decides to leave my body! and yes i will have internet access. i'll keep ya posted
-
Best wishes to you. I'll pray everything goes well.
-
Girl, please know that your IHD family is with you all the way. :grouphug; You know that Daniel is going to be our very own IHD baby!
-
Your new sonogram picture looks good! He looks like he'll be big! Congrats again! :beer1;
-
:yahoo; This just in.... Daniel the fetus is growing by leaps and bounds. He is at 17 weeks gestation which makes his mommy 19 weeks preggo! His fighting weight is 11 ounces and he stands at 8 inches tall. He enjoys kicking his mom and making her dizzy. Daniel sleeps most of the day and is up all night long. At his last sonogram he was not in the mood to take pictures, hopefully on Dec 26 he will be in a more playful mood....stay tuned there is more to come on the adventures of Daniel and his mom! :clap;
-
Wonderful news of our IHD baby Daniel! Thank you for keeping us up to date on our baby. The next time he is awake and active, please tell him of all the aunties and uncles that he has all over the world, and how our caring thoughts are with him. :grouphug;
-
Hi Misschell, Oswald's wife here...just wanted to give my :twocents; "two cents", but most of all send you and your growing family lots of love and prayers!!!
When I started to read this thread I was really disappointed by the welcome you were getting...here you were trying to find a place to share your experience and hear from others who may be going, or have gone through it before, because, afterall you are already pregnant...its not as if you said, "I'm on dialysis and think I'm thinking of getting pregnant, what do you think?"...instead of encouragement, well wishes, and advice about being pregnant on dialysis, a good number of folks only had judgment and scary warnings, and even utterances that your baby was a mistake...PLEASE KNOW THAT NO CHILD IS A MISTAKE!!! You're baby is a blessing, right where he is, and to the world when he gets here! :angel;
Then I was glad to see the tone take a turn for the better as I read more and more posts...I'm seeing more of the loving nature of the IHD family that my husband is so fond of...God bless you, Daniel, your family and all those in charge of your care - you are all in our prayers...oh and Merry Christmas! :rudolph;
-
Thank you soo much. Some of the comments really did piss me off, i was like what was i supposed to do kill my kid. I just had to tell them i was looking for support not critics and them could just sit on it----
Merry Christmas to you too :bandance;
-
Good Luck Misshell. Thanks for the nice update!
-

Misschell,
I'm pregnant and on dialysis too! I was on traditional 3x/week in center dialysis (my 4th round of dialysis since I was 12) for about 3 months when I got pregnant and I started using the NxStage when I was about 3 weeks and didn't know yet. When I found out at 10 weeks, every doctor I had and met asked me if I wanted to terminate even though I had already made it clear numerous times that it was not an option.
Right now I dialyze 7 days a week for 3 hours each. I chose to go to 7 days because I couldn't tolerate sitting for 4 hours. I'm 26 yrs old and have too much to do to sit in one spot for so long! So far there are no plans to put me in the hospital since all my blood work is still coming back good and the only trouble I've had is that I have been VERY anemic - had to get several units of blood a couple months ago. The baby is about 20 weeks according to the ultrasounds and a girl. We are naming her Kaylynn.
I am so excited to hear about you and Daniel! I hope everything continues to go well for both of you!
Jenn
(ps. I also have an ultrasound on dec. 26th! How weird is that?!? ;D)
-
Good Luck on the Ultrsounds.
-
:grouphug;
-
:) :) I finally decided to post here after seeing so many positive and supportive responses to misschell78's posts. Practically everything else I found had so many negative comments and we don't need negativity. :)
My ultrasound went well and everything looks great with Kaylynn and she is 20 weeks, 5 days, due May 13th, only 2 days off from the original prediction when she was 10 weeks. :) And it turns out all the weird "gas" I'd recently been feeling was her kicking and waving (confirmed when I saw her move and felt it at the same time during the US. Yay!
I hope your holiday and ultrasound went well misschell and that Daniel is doing well! Don't go to stir crazy :urcrazy; in the hospital. You guys are in our thoughts and prayers! :cuddle;

It is so exciting for all of us to be a part of watching Daniel and Kaylynn growing. As you are finding out, this is a very positive place to come to. Babies are such a miracle and a wonderful gift. My best childhood friend started having kidney problems in her teens. This was back in the early 70's. She went on dialysis, and then became pregnant. The doctors did not want her to continue the pregnancy. Her husband agreed, but Nancy was raised Catholic and didn't believe in abortion. Plus, she wanted this baby. Everything went well and she had a lovely baby boy named Adam who is now in his 30's. And that was back in the dark ages---they know so much more now and will give you such good care. My DIL is a labor and delivery nurse and she gets so attached to the moms who are in the hospital for a few months. So, we are all here for you and praying for an easy time for everyone. 2 new babies---what a good year 2008 will be!!

-
Hi! The baby and I are both doing really well! :2thumbsup; We are 30 weeks 2 days now. Kaylynn is in the 65th percentile of babies her gestational age! She is VERY active and her favorite activity seems to be kicking my full stomach so that I get horrible acid reflux!
I just stopped working on Friday (Feb. 29th) because I thought the docs were going to put me in the hospital (like misschell78) but my insurance company wouldn't pay for the hospitalization because the pregnancy is so normal. So instead I am getting a home non-stress test machine sometime in the next week or so to monitor during my treatments which are 7 days a week for at least 3.5 hrs. I am scheduled for another ultrasound to measure her growth next week and go for non-stress tests (NSTs) at the hospital 2x a week.
SO I'm staying home now and cleaning house and getting things ready for the baby (and resting of course). :) That's about all the new info there is for now. Hope everyone else is doing well!
-
:clap; Love the good update! Hope all goes well!

Great news! Can't wait til we have our IHD baby! has anyone heard anything of Misschell?

:clap;
-
Thanks for updating us. Take care of both of you :2thumbsup;

Best wishes to you and your little one.

Has any one heard from Misschell? She said she would have access to the internet in the hospital yet we've heard nothing. Months ago we sent our phone numbers and addresses in case we didn't log on in a while has anyone tried to contact her that way? Jenn how are Kaylynn and doing?
I wasn't on dialysis while pregnant, but I did find my disease while pregnant and turned around and got pregnant again not even a year later, my boys were 3 and 4 while I was on dialysis. They watched Lion King and rubbed Mommys feet with lotion so much that Lion king broke (VHS). I got to relax they got to watch a favorite movie, and they thought it was cool to play in the lotion. They are now 14 and 15, and I restarted dialysis June of 06 after having a 8 1/2 year transplant.
-
I recently sent a PM to misschell78. She did not add her name and contact info to our Emergency Contact List
-
Thanks OK I have been really worried about her.

Well it's great to see you on again. :waving;

Another update... I'm being induced on April 22nd at 37 weeks (full term! but with a low-ish risk of going into labor on my own). The docs determined that a planned delivery would be best for me to accommodate my dialysis schedule. SO I will go to the hospital after my treatment on the 21st and things will go from there. I assume they will only let me labor for so long before deciding on a cesarean section (they want me to get an epidural). After whatever delivery occurs, I will be dialyzed to remove the extra fluid that naturally occurs after delivery and to avoid further complications.
Baby Kaylynn and I are both doing great at our 33 week mark. She is over 4 1/2 lbs by now since that is what she was last Thursday. :) Her rapid weight gain is making it harder to determine my dry weights.
Well, I'm at the end of my treatment for the night. I hope everything is ok with Misschell.
-
:2thumbsup; Thank you Jenn, Best wishes!
-
She is so cute, it looks like you have a smart kid on your hands, with the way she in there looking like she's thinking. I am so glad you posted.
-
Wishing you an easy delivery. :2thumbsup; You must be so excited!!
-
Wishing you and your family the best of luck! Can't wait to see her!!! :-)
-
What a beautiful baby!! I will say, from my experience, a planned c-section is much easier than a surprise one....I found out around 35w that my son was breech and went ahead and planned the section...it wasn't easy by any means but it wasn't that bad. Wishing you a quick and smooth delivery whichever happens!!! Good luck!!!!

JD, such a beautiful baby your having. I hope your delivery is quick and not painful. Can't wait to see your lil one!! :big hug:

Sounds like they are taking good care of you and your baby.
May you have a speedy delivery and lots of good health.
-
My caring thoughts and prayers are with you. Please keep us posted.
I wish we could find out what is going on with Misschell.
-
Congratulations, I hope everything goes great on the 22nd!
Just so you don't get too ready for having a c-section...I was induced at 35 weeks, and they allowed me to labor for over 36 hours before doing a c-section, and the reason for the c-section had nothing to do with how long I had been in labor. The c-section was pretty easy, and over quickly. They told me at 12:30 or so that I'd be having it, and my son was born at 1:11.

I actually just discussed this with my doctor today because I had heard that normally they let women go 3 days before doing a c-section after failed induction. He told me that because of the dialysis they probably would consider a c-section much sooner than that if I was not making good progress. They weren't planning on dialyzing me until after the birth. When I told them my thoughts (starting the drug, if I wasn't progressing, stopping it, dialyzing, and then starting again right after) he kinda looked at me like Oh we hadn't thought of that option and said that it will really be a play-it-by-ear situation. They really consider c-section as worst case scenario.
The thing I'm most annoyed at is that I'm not allowed to take my NxStage to the hospital with me and they don't have any of their own for me to use so I'll have to switch to theirs. AND I will not be able to do dialysis in my room with my baby, I'll have to put her in the nursery and be taken up 2 floors for my (currently) 3.5 hour treatment while I'm trying to start breastfeeding. :-p While I'm not at all opposed to supplementing with formula I'd prefer not to use it until later. Ah well.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers! I have heard there is another dialysis patient at my hospital who is pregnant as well, so add her in with Misschell and I.
-
Studies have shown that babies born by c-section have higher than normal IQ, which is probably due to their having avoided the usual damage to the head which occurs during passage through the birth canal. This is yet another factor in favor of a c-section.

Both my sons were born c-section. The oldest is smart as a whip. Youngest is too just doesn't 'apply' it as often.
I recovered quicker on the second one. Probably because I knew what to expect. Hold that pillow tight to your belly for support when getting up and sitting down.

Won't they allow you to express your own milk that canthen be given by bottle if you are on dialysis when a feed is needed? Wishing you all the very best.
:bunny:
-
I wonder why you can't take your Nxstage with you to the hospital. Billing? They want a part? Whatever. I have always wondered that. I feel so much better on a 5 day a week regimen that I would be bummed to end up in the hospital and need to do it for four hours and only three times a week again.
About the milk, can't they have a nurse bring the baby to you up there to feed while you dialyzed? Just a thought. Or be able to express it at least.
Good luck!!
-
Glad to hear you're keeping the docs on their toes! :thumbup;
When you mentioned leaving the baby in the nursery while you dialyze, I wondered about pumping your milk, as well. I hope you get something figured out for them!
-
Best of luck hon!!! I wouldn't trade my pregnancy experience for anything, even tho its been 22 yrs ago. I loved every minute of it!!!!!!!

I am not pregnant on dialysis anymore! I had a baby on dialysis! :yahoo; I am posting our story in a new "I had a baby" topic.

YAYYY!!! A NEW BABY!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I congratulated you in your other thread, but I'll do it again--congratulations!!!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone's heard from Misshell (I think I spelled it right)? This was originally her post, but she hasn't posted in a while to let us know how things are going. i hope she and her baby are ok.
