Well,
My husband Les needs to get his cath changed-
again! He just had this one put in two weeks ago,
and it is not working properly, damn it all
We will be at the hospital at 5:45 AM tomorrow-
I can't wait to talk to the Dr to find out what he
intends to do to get this new one working properly.
We also have appt with Phila Dr for his evalluation of
new fistula (1st two did not work) This Dr is supposed
to be the best, he comes into our area in Jersey 2 tims a
month to see patients who have had a very hard time
getting a fistula, and supposedly none of his have failed.
Please wish us luck, and a few prayers would be appreciated
Anne and Les

Wow that's tough! Sorry he's had so much trouble. :cuddle;

So sorry about the stupid catheters. They are a big pain the butt. All together i had gone through thirteen of them. I did have two failed fistulas. When i checked out another surgeon i found out he was able to get the one i have now to work. I know how frustrated you both must be. The catheters appear so simple yet thet cause so many problems. I live in chalfont not far from Philadelphia. I am lucky i am not far from the hospital. Dialysis is bad enough the last thing y'all need is a lousy catheter. I hope all goes well.

There's nothing like having tubes shoved into your body, is there? :-\
I really hope this one stays for Les. I've had only 2, and I hate going for any kind of "procedure".
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm on nocturnal home hemodialysis, so I do all my own treatments at home. I started out with a line, and it was working great, but as usual, I kept getting pressured into getting a fistula. I had my fistula surgery scheduled 5 times. I git bumped 3 times for other surgeries and once because I had my best friend's funeral to attend. I finally got the surgery done on the 5th attempt. I was sick for 2 days afterwards because of the medication they pumped into me during the surgery. Then, a week after I got the stitches out after having my catheter removed, my fistula failed. They tried to bring it back, but couldn't, and when the doctor asked if I had any problems with my line, and I said none at all, he seemed upset, almost as if he thought I should have just kept the line if it as working so well. I was so distraught over that, I couldn't go to work for a week, and have been back to using a line for the past year and a half. I have been lucky that I have had no serious issues with it, and have NEVER gotten an infection...I take extremely good care of my line and I make sure the dressing I put on stays clean, and promptly change it when needed. Yet, I still get pressure from other attending doctors during my visits about getting a fistula, but not from my own nephrologist or the nurses.
