Chocolately treats to support kidney foundation

The Amherst Daily News

AMHERST — Every fall, the Kidney Foundation of Canada launches one of its most important national fund-raising efforts.

Over the next few weeks, the foundation, with the help of local businesses and community organizations, will be raising money by selling various chocolate treats at $2 each. Volunteers will be at the entrance to Sobey’s on Oct. 4, to kick off the campaign and will be there several days thereafter, and possibly other locations.

“We depend upon the success of our fundraising campaigns to fund vital research projects and to provide services to support kidney patients and their families across Canada,” said Amherst Chapter president Michele LeBlanc. “We encourage everyone to buy a treat and, at the same time, make a difference in the life of someone living with kidney disease.”

More than 30,000 Canadians currently receive treatment for chronic kidney failure, while about two million others have kidney related disorders such as high blood pressure, diabetes and urinary tract infections.

The Kidney Foundation is the only national volunteer organization dedicated to improving the health and quality of live of the people living with kidney disease. Since 1964, the Foundation has granted more than $74 million toward kidney-related research.
