To ALL Members,
I am writing this post to ask you to do me a favor, I have noticed many posts that have many spelling mistakes and general mistakes such as typing to fast and having words not typed properly. Here is an example:
"Ih ave bee n on dialysis f or 3 years." (This really bothers me, this is just being careless)
I am asking ALL of our members to please have pride in our site and do 2 things before you hit that "Post" button, 1) Please use the "Spell Check" button for every post and 2) Please go through your post and fix any mistakes. Let's set an example for future members by having pride in our site. I am getting tired of seeing members post so carelessly. If you do not start taking pride in your posts and I see many spacing errors and mis-spelled words I will simply delete that post. I do not want it to come to that so I am asking you to please have pride in YOUR post, it only takes an extra few seconds to spell check and correct any other mistakes.
I hope you understand that we are here to help US and OTHERS and I want people who are looking for help to be able to read your posts and understand them.
I am also asking that you REPLY to this thread to confirm that you have indeed read this and understand the new rules. I will start deleting posts if I need to.
Thank you,
Epoman

Below are my replies to some members replies. I added this here so in case a new member does not take the time to read the entire thread they will have a better understanding of why I created this post.
UPDATE:
I am not critiquing any posts I am just asking members to have some pride in their posts, is it really too much to ask that before you click the "Post" button, you take 10 extra seconds and hit the "Spell Check" button. If they can't understand that so be it. I care about the QUALITY of posts more so than the QUANTITY of posts. This site serves 2 purposes. The 1st being an "outlet" for members to rant and vent, the 2nd being a resource for people who are about to start dialysis and are scared and have questions. Let me put it this way if a member comes for the first time and they see a lot of posts that have multiple spelling errors and spacing mistakes then they are more inclined to not care about their posts either, however if they see that the posts are clear and concise then they will be more inclined to be clear and concise as well. I do not care about a mis-spelled word here and there, or a spacing problem once in a while. I DO care when I see a post that has multiple misspelled words OR when I can not understand what the poster is trying to say.
UPDATE:
Thank you, and yes of course we all make mistakes and by no means am I perfect. I make mistakes too. I don't care about small mistakes here and there and even grammar mistakes such as using "to" instead of "too" or typing "3" instead of "three" or even "there" instead of "their" I just want new potential members to look at our site and be impressed by our posts and the pride we have in our site.
UPDATE:
Also I am not concerned the WAY someone speaks IT HAS NOTHING to do with that, it has to do with TYPOS and FORMAT. Again I will say it has NOTHING to do with dialect. As for being more liberal to the regular posters well I can't do that since they are the ones setting the example for the site and for any future members. I have NO idea where you got the idea that I was speaking against NON-Americans, This is about taking your time to post and correcting mistakes, I'm not asking to you to be perfect. But EVERY human can type proper or at least try regardless of where they are from. I thank you for making a calm/rational post and I hope this has cleared up what I am looking for and why I had banned "Mel". Finally, I do respect my members and I cherish my "regular" posters and I try to make this a nice community, all I ask from my regular posters is to do one little thing and that's lets make this site great by limiting the number of typos and formating mistakes.

Got it, sir! ;D ;D I will spell check from now on. I am a terrible typist and often don't catch the dumb mistakes. Updated this post 6/3/06. I think it is a good idea to check spelling and have pride in our site!

Thank you, I'm glad you understand and I hope you realize why I am enforcing this. You see this site is going to be up and running even after MY death. So every post and thread will be here for many, many years too come. Literally hundreds of thousands of people will visit this site and every post will be here for them to read. Every post made will still be here even after that posters death, so in a way the member is immortalized by this site even after their passing.

Spell it out if you can. Thanks~

Sorry, 74 yrr old, type on left hand Dorvak keyboard wifh one finger. Try to do better. Woody :)

OK.
Just a thought, if people think their posts are going to be critiqued you may notice less posting. I understand the reason WHY you want this done, but I'd hate to see the level of posting decrease.

Yes, Sir. Will do. :)

I have invested literally HUNDREDS of hours into building this site and I have worked hard making it the site that it is. Maintaining a site such as this takes effort and a lot of admin/maintenance work. I don't think asking my members to take an additional 10 seconds to spell check and proof read is to much to ask.
Please do not misconstrue this reply I am not speaking to you directly, I am speaking to everyone on the board.

Maybe if you are going to be the grammar police you should fix this post.
"typing to fast" should be "typing too fast"
Also the number two should be written out "do 2 things" should be "do two things"
Also the first comma after favor should be a period.
The sentence in the parenthesis should have a period at the end. Putting it in parenthesis doesn't make it special.
Oh and misspelled has no hyphen.
There are other formatting issues but I'm not going to waste my time with them.

Wow! what a great FIRST post, Welcome to the board. It's too bad that the first words out of your mouth is to talk shit to the owner of the site who works his ass off trying to keep this place running. But you can't understand that can you, since you have no problem bad mouthing the admin.
I never said I was perfect and in fact my posts have mistakes too, I'm not looking for perfection just asking my members to try to do their best, as I try to do. Even though my posts are not perfect they are still able to be understood.
But regardless of that fact I just can't believe this is your first post. What a way to make a first impression.

ROFL
Calm down man. Can't take a joke eh?
-
Okay, OK, O-K......
The bottom line is "hit spell check" and correct what you can. Make an effort. That is all that is being asked here. ;)
I am the WORST speller, and thank God for spell check, calculators, and microwaves. (notice I did not include dialysis machines) ;D
-
I do not care about a mis-spelled word here and there, or a spacing problem once in a while. I DO care when I see a post that has multiple misspelled words OR when I can not understand what the poster is trying to say.
OK. I understand this, as I have noticed a post here or there that I really could not make heads or tails out of it. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that people make their posts readable, as you said it will make the board more appealing to new members and encourage them to make THEIR posts more readable. I think as long as everyone had the understanding that we're all human and bound to make a few mistakes, even with spell check, it's not too much to ask.
I appreciate all the hard work you put into this place, Epoman, and the pride you have in it. :)

"Oh and misspelled ..." ought to be "Oh, and misspelled..." ROFL, can we take this act on the road? ;D Welcome, OdiN. Keep us on our toes?! Maybe Epoman will let you be the spell and grammar police. ;)
Please go do the introduction thing; you have to be a very interesting person. :)

I am not at all offended by Epoman's request. As a high school teacher (English), I myself am sometimes a bit disconcerted by some of the errors I see. But I have learnt to overlook it.
I personally do not spellcheck (a matter of pride), but I will proof my posts to eliminate typos.

Thanks Epoman.
As an Australian should I spell check to the "American" English.
For example you spell color we spell colour. What do you suggest I don't want to offend you and your site.
My feelings in this matter is that we can't (is this alright or should it be the full word of cannot) all be expected to be O level oxford scholars, I do agree that we should all be clear in our posts, but its hard enough dealing with dialysis let alone having to worry about how you post.I do check my work but I'm (again should this be I am?) just worried you are going to scare away anybody that needs help but has trouble communicating in the written form.
After all this is a great site and if people can't post because there not winners of a spelling bee competition you are not helping all.
There is another option Epoman, for all those people that won't be able to post on this site open a site called I HATE DIALYSIS AND I CANT SPELL.COM
P.S Did a spell check, and it recommends changing Epoman, that would be a bit of a dilemma now wouldn't it.Got a laugh out of that one.

::) Did you even read any of my replies? or ANY replies to this thread. Do me a favor and quit being a smart ass and read the thread to answer your questions.

If you had read the thread before making such a smart ass and totally unnecessary reply you would have had your questions answered. Since you want to be a smart ass then I will be one too, if you are worried about scaring away people then design, build, host, and admin your own site with no rules. I can't believe you have the audacity to come at me like this. Tell you what, if you don't like the new rule then save yourself the stressfull agony of taking an extra few seconds to proof your post and just don't post here anymore, it's your choice.
"just worried you are going to scare away anybody that needs help but has trouble communicating in the written form."
You do realize the "written form" is the way we communicate here, and if we can't understand their post then we can't help them.

Epoman,
I wasn't being a smartass, and I'm sorry I came across that way. I had read the previous thread. I believe there are people out there that spellcheck wouldn't help and you should be leniant towards.
After all we are all going through the struggles of dialysis, it does not discriminate, and I thought this site didn't either.
Some people just don't come across as good as others.
They have come to this site to rant and vent their frustrations too.
In reply,
I would love the time to build my own site , and I'm sure it takes a lot out of you and as i said perviously I think this site is great.
I received the email about the new announcement in my email and since I havent been on here for a while as now I am a nocturnal dialysis patient I have got some normality back in my life and have gone back to work ( at least to do a 30hr week) I thought all opinions would count so I replied.Maybe I shouldn't reply straight home from work it seems I must be a bit of a bitch!
-
I will make every effort in the future to correct my screwups before I post, Sorry.
-
Pup, Is that your Corgi? My best friend used to have one -- LOVE the breed!!
-
Yes it is, she is just over a year old and her name is Chloe. Ain't she cute!!
-
I am one hundred percent (100%) with you on that!!!
-
I had asked all active members (regular posters) to please reply to this thread to acknowledge they have read the thread, however I see many "regulars" posting elsewhere on the forum and disregarding this thread. Please, once again if you read this thread and understand it please acknowledge by replying here. If you have the time to reply to other threads you have time to reply to this thread. This is not optional I need all "regulars" to reply here. If you have replied here already thank you. If not please do so now.

i also am 100% behind you...will take my time when i am posting

Understood.

Ok..done, will spell check every time I post. Liz
-
I agree. I let my brain go faster then my fingers. Thanks for the great site.
-
I have read and understand the importance of using spell check and proof reading. That is only evidence of education and having respect for yourself and others.
-
Will spell check everytime. Not a problem.

Trying to remember what I wrote, word-for-word, before being timed out and losing everything....
So, O.K. 1: I missed an 'e' out for referenced thru (sorry that should be through) typing too
(note everyone there are to 'o's in the quantifier 'too') fast
2: I guess you didn't like '&" - a common abbreviation for 'and' and '=ly' for equally
3: or perhaps '@' for at, but everyone knows that's what it is, as it _is_ in all our
e-mail addresses!
4: I dislike the youngsters' use of 'super-crunched' text on their mobiles, but commonly
used 'computer speak' stuff I thought would've been O.K. (sorry I mean all correct)
I would _never_ front up on a site/bulletinboard/whatever and make my very first posting a criticism
of other people's grammar/spelling/syntax as our 'friend' did above, especially a site visited by sick
people whom one could expect to give a little more leeway to! O.K., so some posts are a little difficult
to decipher and others are full of spelling errors, but I'll live with that, rather than alienate posters. :o
My spelling is fine thanx (oops I mean thanks), any errors are usually typos (so shoot me!), and I
never use spellchecker as I'd only get the American version anyway. Having my English 'corrected'
by it is a total insult ! ;)
O.K. Ep' delete my posts if you want - after all it _is_ your site. I'll simply go into background lurk mode :-*
I must say though, I'm surprised you let this cheeky clown influence you enough to install this thread. ::)
See ya mate!

What? the HELL! that has got to be the worst post EVER. Your post is a perfect example of why I have to enforce this thread. >:( That post is a total lack of respect for yourself and this board. >:(

((Obviously as a senile old fool, I got confused, but for some reason I thought Odin had made a complaint
and Epoman's creation of this thread was in response to that. RE-reading it all, yet again, I can see that is
not the case. I stand corrected))
...and exactly _why_ would it be "the worst" post ever, Ep' ?
An analysis point by point if you like.
I rather fail to see why it denotes "total lack of respect for myself and this site",
as I rather expected a friendly, helpful, easy-going group here, which is how I approached it.
I have to say, I do like the idea that the site will continue and our posts still sitting here on
it, after we current mob have all expired. However, we are individuals, with flaws. I'd like to
think our characters show through, at least a bit, and I am quite willing to have a warts'n'all
version of mine visible on here.
...and I was rather interested, reading back through the thread to see my fellow
Australian Tamara referred to as a "smart ass" - which should really be "smart arse"
by the way, denoting 'bottoms', rather than beasts of burden.
Babi68 is still around, but I think you also scared off Mel. The 'bye and good luck'
on her 2nd posting on her INtro thread seemed to indicate she was gone...I sent
her a direct post encouraging her to stick around, but got no reply. Shame really, as
another 'mature-age' surfer not too far away, I thought we might've met up sometime.
Oh well, we move on.
...we seem to be having an affirmation on this thread, of the belief by many of us
'outsiders' that U.S.A citizens are somewhat too 'P.C.' for their own good.
...anyway, over to you
( possibly my last post here? :o ...and I was beginning to feel 'at home' :-\ )
-
No one likes "criticism." But, constructive "criticism" is a little different. That is when someone offers to HELP you do something you are poor at.
THUS........ Spell Check was born.
Epoman knows no one is perfect, so he put a spell check button at the bottom of each post.
I appreciate it. I don't like to look like an idiot! ;)

NO I didn't scare off "Mel" I banned her. But getting back to you, here is the situation, if you wish to remain a member here you must follow some basic rules just like everything in life there are guidelines to follow. I do not believe it is too much to ask that members double check their posts for typos and spacing mistakes. I put alot of work and time in this site and I provide this site for FREE to anyone and I pay for it out of my own pocket, and all I ask is that the members have pride in their posts. I value you as a member as I do all my members and I welcome you to stay and continue posting here for as long as you wish. All I ask in return is that you respect my wishes. If you feel that my request is to unreasonable then I hope you enjoyed your stay here.

NO I didn't scare off "Mel" I banned her.
You banned Mel? That's ridiculous. I just went back and read all of her posts, and an absolute site ban is pretty extreme. Yes I understand the sacrifices you have made for this site, such as hard work and monetary values, however I do not believe that this gives you the right to ban someone from the site because they may not think the exact same ways as you. I also do not think that you should be so hard on others for their grammar or modes of communicating especially in the cases of "non-North Americans". Yes i think that those who are just lazy, and do not double check what they have written should show a little respect, and some pride. But I do not think that you should be so harsh on someone who has an entirely different dialect, even though they speak the same language as you. You said that Bear's last post was the "worst ever". I do not see how it was the worst post ever. I understood everything he said. It may not have been the way I would have said it, but I'm sure that if he was speaking out loud in real life, the ways that we would say things would be completely different. I know that you put copious amounts of time and effort into this site, and we all greatly appreciate it, however I think you should also show some gratitude and respect to your members, especially the ones who post on a regular basis, as if it were not for them, this site would be just a pretty webpage without an excellent message. I hope that I have not come off as disrespectful, as I give you nothing BUT my utmost respect, but I just wish that you would be a little more "liberal" towards some of your frequent "posters" and try not to be so stern as to not scare away future members/contributors.

-Hype
I did not ban "Mel" because of her posts here, I banned "Mel" because of the last "Nasty" email she sent me. So you do not know the whole story of WHY I banned her. Her and I exchanged several emails.

New to site. My spelling/grammer can suck but will try.

I dont understand why people are so upset about this.It just makes sense to be as accurate as possible.I agree completely.Thank you for a wonderful site.

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but you can "modify" your posts. There are some bars on the upper right hand corner of your post. If you hit "modify" you can correct errors. So, don't think that when you hit "post", that it is set in stone. It can be corrected. ;)
-
Oh _I've_ seen them. Sometimes it's the third re-redit before I'm happy with it.
Being 'happy with it' doesn't mean there might not still be an error there. ;)

Wow... no wonder you hate dialysis you have control issues. The internet must be a source of frustration.

Are you talking to me? and if so what does "let Bob" mean? And if you are talking to me yeah I do have control issues, I will run MY site the way I want too. That is what ADMINS do! ::)

Only just seen this post Epoman (Oman) by Spell Check.
I do agree with what you are saying Epoman, I know the "BUT" Spell Check is not always the answer even Spell Check can not recognize quite a few renal words, plus most of the tablets, medicines that we are on now. Plus we may have been on a few years ago.
I know sometimes I do type a bit fast, I always have, you do sometimes get a bit in front of yourself. But as long as the person/patient it is meant for can read it. (I know not in the case of a link.) It is always typed from the heart with good intention.
Sorry for not posting before, had a little bit on my plate. Just can not get back into the swing of things until everything get sorted out.
I will be back to my normal un-witty self ;D
Kevno
Sorry about the un-witty not in Spell Check, not even in the Dictionary!

got it.

Epoman - just found & registered on this website about 30 minutes ago. The first topic I start reading, the OWNER is using all these three & four letter words. This looks like a fun website to visit daily. Anyway !!!!!!!!! Hi every 1 ;D ;D ;D

I understand, and agree. Our written word is a reflection on whomever, or whatever we represent.
However, as English is my second language, my grammar can be a bit twisted sometimes, and I hope you will bear with me on that ;)

My apologies Epoman, I fully intended to post the other day to confirm I had read and understood all that was being requested, but got sidetracked reading the postings on the board. Sorry for the delay my friend.
Thanks! :)

ok I have read it . I have never used spell check and probably never will use it .I have been able to read all posts without a problem so far, this is a great site. there has never been a better one that I have seen
quit being so picky Epo lol will I get booted for this one ?

Hmmmm ? here one from the boss himself ? where was spellchecker here ?
Wow, 20+ members have seen this thread and not one has did what I asked.

I'm am being dead serious when I say you better NOT have alot of mistakes in your posts then, because since you don't want to follow my very simple rule, then yeah I will as you say it "boot" you. and have you read all 4,500+ posts? Also the reason you are able to understand most posts is because most of the members use the spell check.
Also NO, I will not stop being picky, that is my job as being the admin and owner. But I guess you have no idea what it takes to run a site like this one. I just can't believe you come on this thread after you see everyone else on here agreeing to abide by the rule.
You know, had you read the damn thread or even the whole original post, you would see I am not looking for perfection, just an effort. Before you came along we had some members that had posts that were unreadable. What a way for a new member with less than 20 posts, to make a first impression to the owner of the site, who works his ass off for the site, by calling out a mistake he made, way to go.
Lets recap shall we?
- You say you WILL NOT use spell check.
- You point out a tiny mistake I made, to make me look stupid. (which wasn't even a spelling mistake)
Good job. Now you're on my shitlist.

I just posted but when I hit spell check the page refreshed and I lost everything I typed :(
Anyway, sorry I didn't read all the rules but I just got home from dialysis not too long ago and am not feeling the best to sit here for hours and read... I will read the rest tomorrow.
Hopefully everyone who posts here is good at the English language. I am an admin of a few forums and I know that not everyone who posts knows the English language and many people thought one particular person I have in mind, that she was stupid or else was 12 but she was 28 and from Belgium. She tried her best. At least I am English but sometimes my dyslexia gets in the way.

All Iask is that you atleast try. :)
Hi Epoman. I for one know from experience that not everyone is perfect, including you. I see in a lot of these posts, the constant back and forth bashing about spelling and grammer checking and I just wanted to point out that fact that not everyone on these forums speaks English as their first language or spells everything as the US English dictionary suggests. For example, Canadians spell the word color as colour and your spell checker may check that is wrong. Or it may not. I don't know. But I can understand why you want people to double check their posts before posting for professionalism and ease of reading but I think you need to have some leniency to the above fact. I'm not trying to bash you, im just suggesting that you ease up just a little.

Your new here so I am not going to get pissed that you have the audacity to not know anything about this site and tell me to ease up. But I am glad that you decided to point out an error on my part to make me look foolish, good for you. ::) Proud? I think you need to go back and re-read all my replies to this thread. I hate that I have to waste my time explaining myself to someone how I wish to run my site but here goes. Again, I just want members to try, can you understand that? If you read EVERY post on this entire site, I have never spoke to ANYONE about spelling variations, and I am intelligent enough to understand that fact, I have been on the Internet back when it was just BBS.'s You were not here when we had members who posted messages that others could not understand, SO please do me a favor and re-read this entire thread and you will see MOST members 100% agree with the rule. The Internet is a huge place there are many sites to choose from, if someone doesn't like the rules of a particular site then there is a very simple solution, find another site. And that rule applies to you as well or any other member. If I see a member who is defying the rules on purpose or making mistakes just to be defiant then that member will be banned, bottomline. I put literally hundreds of hours into this site to keep it fresh and new for my members and don't EXPECT a dime in return, so it's not to much to ask members to TRY! Is it? ::)

Oh well! I think I mean "Bloody hell" Sometimes people just have to give you BS* and you gotta find a way to take it.

Is it possible to add other words to the dictionary??

Yes, I am new here and I don't know everything but when I comes to someone else's boards, I read the rules carfully before I make my first post. And I did read every message. I only pointed out the spelling mistakes you made because you want everyone to use the spell checker and failed to use it yourself. I'm not trying to make you look foolish. I'm just saying that if you want people to do as you ask, you should follow your own rules. It's only fair. Now, do I feel proud? No. I don't know why you thought I was bashing you. I was only trying to be respectful and observant.

::) Had you read every post in this thread you would have known I have already said people make mistakes and I do not expect perfection. I do follow my own rules but I also admin this site that has had 1,500 NEW POSTS this month alone, so I am allowed to break my own rules once in a while. But regardless of if I skip a spell check once in a while, my posts are ALWAYS readable, unlike how a couple of the members use to post.
I thought you were bashing me (I still do) because you know I'm the admin of this site that is growing faster than any other dialysis message board, was it necessary to call me out in front of my members? If you wanted to be respectful you would have sent be a PM or an email, but you didn't you decided to embarrass me. But I am not embarrassed because my regular members know how much of my heart I put in this site and THEY understand I make a mistake once in a while too.
So in closing I would like to say YET AGAIN, all I ask is that my members TRY and they to are allowed to forget once in awhile. I am not looking for perfection just legible posts. Since this site will be here even after my death. It is my legacy.
Now let's just put this behind us and move on.
- Epoman
P.S. by the way your sentence had two mistakes:
I don't know everything but when I comes to someone else's boards, I read the rules carfully
It should have said:
I don't know everything but when It comes to someone else's boards, I read the rules carefully
:P

I happen to agree with Epoman. I am a terrible typist and spellcheck does not catch everything. I TRY, though and he is patient.

I think it is just that we don't know EpoMan and worry just how patient he is because how he words things we both got the impression that he might not be patient enough .. only because there was at least ONE place on these forums where he did infact state that he does INFACT want perfection. I know for a fact it does say that in one spot but there are so many posts that I don't want to go and try to find it. Wait .. there is a search feature? I might check that out in a bit.
I just want to say Epoman, sorry for being so harsh on you, but now I am going to say something else .. I just ran across something else (yes, else, meaning not the first thing) that I am impressed about on this board. I am impressed that if while typing my post out and spelling checking it (the first thing I am impressed about is the spell checker honestly) is that if someone else posts it will tell me that I might want to edit my post some before submitting it because someone else has posted while I was. ...That is so cool! I have never seen that anywhere else and I like that!! Thank you for choosing this board Powered by SMF 1.0.3. I think I will suggest this format to D&T City as we have been disappointed (greatly) with MSN Groups (their lack of allowing editing of posts mainly but you have so much more here than even just the ability to edit).
I also wanted to say that your site is really needed amongst the dialysis community and I appreciate your site and forums! Sorry if we have been too harsh but it is only because you seem so harsh in your statements we first read where you DID infact say that you DO expect perfection and that mistakes will lead to being banned.
But since your last statements insist (and there is so much to read that it is best if the first one people read would say this instead of having to read everything) that you do NOT expect perfection but just for us to try, we now understand and feel more at ease to post. At first I was intimidated but I think I am getting more comfortable with you and feel like I can speak my mind. I am just a grumpy person myself at times since I hate dialysis (fitting eh?) and have been on it for 5 years and have lost everything I worked so hard for when my transplant failed. Who knows ... maybe one day I will even put you on my Skype ;)
Thank you for your site EpoMan! I don't know if you even realize how invaluable your site is to at least the whole North American parts and beyond!
I think there should be a new section for opinions and suggestions! *looks in new window*. Nevermind. I see you do! (http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=12.0) You have thought of everything haven't you! lol! I was only asking because I was wondering if there was a spot to put just supportive statements about what we do like about this board and any opinions about it we have, including the spell check and anything else.
Anyway, sorry for this being so long. Sometimes I babble. I just woke up lol.

Thank you for the kind words, I really put my heart in this site and spend alot of time building it and always thinking of new ways to improve it. I did alot of research before I chose the board software (SMF) and I checked out many boards and decided to go with what I though was best. I also implimented features I knew people would like and features I thought would be a nice touch.
About me saying "I expect perfection" I never said that I assure you. I have said I would ban people who totally disregard this thread and the rules all together, but I do not expect perfection, just try. If I see that a member does not try and says screw the rules and uses excessive bad language, many mistakes per post, or abuses another member, then yeah that member will get a warning, then if it continues a ban.
And yeap I see you found the requests/comments section, that is where a member can go and request a feature or make a comment about the site in general.
This site is constantly evolving, in fact the home page was just added this month. By the way what do you think of the homepage? Have you tried "Kidney Kickups"? or have you seen the "Store", what about the "Arcade" have you tried the games yet? I really wanted to make this site different than the rest. How about our "Memorial" section. Or how about the "Dialysis News" section with up to the minute dialysis news, updated automatically. Let me know what you think. Have you seen the home page yet?

Actually I am VERY impressed by the Up to the minute News :) But I have not had the time to check out everything because I am currently in the process of moving. I will look at it all after July 9th. ;)
I have seen the homepage simply because that is what you had posted in D&T City (http://groups.msn.com/DialysisTransplantCity) ;) Oh! Is it okay to do that (*D&T City (http://groups.msn.com/DialysisTransplantCity)*) because I only do that for people who are wondering "what is this D&T City she mentioned?" so that they can click on it and see. If you don't want me to do that then I will just have it as plain text and not clickable. Thanks for all your understanding about me being new here! I will check out everything eventually ;) Thanks for your great site! I love to gripe (my nickname is Katie KaBooM because of that) so you can imagine how I like this place! I find it funny when I quote you and I do spell check and it wants to correct what I quoted you saying lol!

This might be fun, I will have to remember spell check. I usually write the way I talk, TEXAN.
I find that this will come in handy for me as I have a neuromuscular disorder that wreaks havoc with my typing.

Reading through some of the messages posted here, I can't believe anyone would find it too hard to hit a button(spellcheck) before the (post) button. Too not care is ignorance at it's best and a little disrespectful and then to comeback and refuse to spell check, Epoman you have alot more patience than I do.
Out of respect of the other posters and moderators I am more than happy to spell check first. Guess what? It makes me look alot smarter than I am too, and it's painless!

For instance it's/its, site/sight, they're/their/there, to/too/two, then/than, accept/except ... the list is very long ... my point is that if you're taking the time to write something then you must want what you write to impact the reader ... the better you write the more impact you will have ... sometimes we just need to be reminded of the obvious.

I am in total agreement. Subject/verb agreement is also something important. I went into a bank today and there was a notice put up, but there was a glaring grammatical error. I was embarrassed for them.
Some years ago I told someone that the advent of the technology aid has given us the capacity to put some horrible grammar in some exquisite high-tech formats! How can you have a notice looking so perfect in terms of graphics and fonts and then have less than correct grammar/spelling/punctuation??
Forgive this English teacher's rant.

I agree with you all. Even though I am terrible typist I am proofreading before posting. I don't always catch everything, but I am trying. I hate the words mines. Such as when a child is telling me "that pencil is mines." WTF???? When did mine become plural??? When did the kid become plural?
I made him correct his English, but he could not do it. It was funny conversation.

I find people from other countries usually have the hardest time with these but also people with learning disabilities. Not all people who type in bad grammer can be assumed to be young kids that don't care. That is not always the case.
This site seems relavant to this topic: http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/errors.html

Hi, I just joined. I read the message. I will do my best. It's actually a good thing. I have lost all my good spelling habits due to chats. LOL I probably won't be posting much, anyway. :)
EDIT: Removed quote tag error.

Please,Kidneez, could you go to Introduce Yourself and tell us a bit about you? I like your name. I do hope you don't mean what you said. This community exists by the posting of its members.

I like the spellcheck; even though it doesn't correct everything it helps a lot. But, the best thing I can do for my spelling and grammer is to not post after 11 PM. Those 2 or 3 AM posts sometimes take three or four spell checks. ;D

Understood. :thumbup;

Oh my.....
I wish I'd read this before I posted in off-topic about the spell-checker not recognizing some of the most commonly used dialysis terms. I really did just think it was funny - I didn't realize the spellcheck was one of epoman's pet peeves.
Sorry!
I alway use the spell check anyhow, since I tend to type fast and invert letters a lot.

Will comply with your request.

As a new member I read the post. No spelling errors----Boxman55

I am writing this as a reminder... to no one in particular... but it's because I often forget myself, and have to go back and fix my posts later!
Use the spell check!
I have to remember to use speel chack (hehehe that's for Kitkatz) but I will try harder too.
I think it's distracting to read a post with a lot of errors and as Epoman said "Take pride in your posts!"

I just read this again because much of the problems we recently had with a member simply started because they were asked to use spellcheck. This reminds me how things escalated over what seems like a reasonable request.

I need to hit the reply button as if I wasn't in a race.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks! I will do my best.

Epoman; I understand your frustration with spelling and grammar. However, if you notice your own first post has a spelling error in it. ("typing to fast" instead of "typing TOO fast'). And I'm only pointing that out because this is supposed to be a safe place. People make mistakes. There's nothing wrong with checking your posts before clicking send (it annoys me too) but nobody's perfect. Thanks! :waving;
