This is a poem i wrote about the infection and fever that comes with the catheters we usually get when we start with dialysis: The Shakes: I was talking to Mary when the fever came on. From my head to my feet, I wish i was gone. It starts out slow working it's way to your heart. The poison makes it's home knowing where to start. Tis the tube in my chest that does this ugly deed. I shake in my chair. Antibiotics is what i need. My eyes droop shut. My hair begins to hurt. I gaze at the machine that beeps an alert. The nurses come over and see I'm not well. With the look on my face they certainly can tell. My temperature is taken it reads 102.8. Must get the tube before it's too late. I walk to my truck feeling lonely and blue. Fighting the truth i know what i must do. The seventh time a tube is in my chest. I pray for a quick death. You know the rest. The last one was the worst, i screamed the whole time. The I.V. isn't working they don't seem to mind. Another patient to them. "Lets get this one out the door." I'm still shaking as i walk i wonder what for. Keith.
