i wrote this poem when i had a catheter. I was scared to get a access. now that i have one it's not that bad. It is called the access You may not know it but i can feel your pain. With me and my tubes. You they hit the vein. Which one is worse, the sacrifice or the shame? To shower or bathe the end is always the same. The plastic on your armcovers the ugly bump. After years of sticking your left with a black lump. Not easy to hide in the hot summer heat. Must wash the access clean before you take your seat. I don't know how you handle it every other day. Knowing whats to come with out much to say. Some of you flinch some watch t.v. Some of you are brave and avert your eyes to see. Not one but two are shoved into your arm. The nurses they try without much harm. Once they are in you must keep very still. And pray to God that you don't get ill. Four hours you sit now we are all one. We all have to wait for the deed to be done. When your time is over they pull them out. Put pressure on the site. You just want to shout. With me they unhook and i am ready to go. But you have to wait for the blood not to flow. Sometimes you leak all over the chair. Bleach will take care of it. You don't even care. Keith
