Title: Flattening the Curve
Post by: enginist on March 10, 2020, 07:20:08 PM
I posted this on a running thread, but I think it's important enough to warrant a thread of it's own:

Here's an update on the latest strategy, called "Flattening the Curve," which comes to us from the CDC.  Despite it's recent bungling and the spineless leadership of it's director Robert Redfield, the CDC is still capable of doing good work.  In any case, we are asked as individuals  to spread this approach to the virus far and wide.  It essentially means slowing down the rate of infection so that the health care system isn't overwhelmed.  It makes perfect sense to me, and there's a lot of good information in the link, the single best resource I have found so far.

Thanks very much for this link, enginist.  It's very helpful and informative.  I hope the article is read by people who keep forgetting that a large portion of the population fall into the "high risk" category.

I think this is half of the reason why there seems to be a lot of over-reacting to Covid-19. Until there is a vaccine, a large percentage of the population will eventually be exposed to it, and many will become infected. Temporarily banning large gatherings will only push the likelihood of that out, and spread it over a longer time period.
