My hand had been getting progressively worse over the last year or so with numbness in fingers eventually progressing to numbness of my whole hand and sometimes at night extreme pain. I self diagnosed as Steal Syndrome some time ago but about a month ago I finally went to get a real diagnosis from my Interventionalist. He agreed it was Steal and we decided on a course of action.
A week ago Monday he went in for a look using contrast to verify what he had seen on ultrasound. Found to be as suspected with an almost fistula flow going around through my palm and dumping the blood into my fistula so the fingers/hand were blood starved. During this look he measured the guilty artery so he could order coils the correct size to occlude it.
Monday of this week he went back in and placed a coil in the artery just before it reaches my fistula. Feeling came back into most of my hand almost immediately, today there is still some numbness in my fingertips but it is so much better than before.
I went in this morning for follow up and stitch removal. Dr believes the feeling will come back to the finger tips over time. They were blood starved the longest so have the most damage.
I am so blessed to have my team of Drs in my life!!!

Glad you were able to get it fixed.

I'll be VERY interested to know when you've regained full feeling in your fingertips! I am so happy that you've had this problem properly diagnosed and dealt with. A good team of doctors makes all the difference in the world! So, good for you!!

Sorry you went thru that but good thing you were proactive about it. Glad to know about the coils, thanks for sharing. My husband has had a little trouble from time to time and was afraid it might be Steal but fortunately not. I will tell him about the coils. And I agree, it is imperative to have a good vascular interventionalist. They're the ones who have kept my husband's fistula alive.
Is that a Belgian Shepherd (or Black Lacy) and Blue Heeler? Working dogs are the smartest creatures on earth! And they take full advantage in knowing that they are.

Next time your social worker or clinic asks you can tell them that yes, you definitely have a great support network at home! :rofl; The purpose of a dog..
